Latly my oil light has been comming on at stop lights after the car has been running for 30+ minutes. It would only happen at a stop light. slightest touch of gas it would go away. Changed my oil yesterday. Ive used nothing but fram oil filters the last few times and ive had the problem with the light since the frams have been on there.

Switched to a purolator, light doesnt seem to come on anymore. pretty amazing. i heard fram was crap, but never had any first hand experience with why they arnt good. guy at work said he switched to a fram from his mobile 1 and noticed his oil pressure drop as well.

very very intresting.

Ahhh, I just changed my oil a few hours ago and put a Fram on it. I've heard bad things, that's all the parts store had that fit. Hopefully it's better than the no-name filter I took off that had "Made in China" in large letters on it!

First oil change since I bought it, much easier than the T-Bird. I almost overflowed the oil container, I guess it holds less than 7 quarts.

i think she takes 5 if im not mistaken, i know the v8 takes 6. but i remember reading nd i swear it said 5 for the v6.

i just wouldnt keep using fram, i know im not going to.

Wrong on both counts, use you owners manual.

Google Fram for an eye opener.

I bet Goggling Fram would be an eye opener:eek:

they may work better for different cars. Works fine for my accord but seeing the problems with trilkb's LS i don't think I'll be going with Fram filters

I heard WIX is a good filter, I'll pick up a few of them. 7 quarts of Synthetic blend and it's right to the full mark.

Napa Premium brand is a WIX in disguise. I use the Motorcraft filters, never had any problems.

I was using Fram prior to using K&N this last time. I had no problems with the Fram oil filters... I'm going to keep using the K&N oil filters though cause my car is getting up there in age/mileage.

alright, its 11:25pm-ish, its freakin 20 degrees, i just ran out to my car in a robe because you guys said i was wrong. Maybe im stubborn?

right here in my 2000 owner manual

3.9L v8 -6.0 quarts
3.0L v6 - 6.0 quarts

maybes its changed since 2000. But im not wrong on both counts. i knew i wasnt. And just to throw it out there....it says 5w30 weight is reccomended, not 5w20 like some people on here say is reccomended.

It would appear the 2000 model is somewhat unique then. From the online owner's manuals here the gen1 v6 takes 6.9 quarts, the gen1 v8 takes 6.0 quarts; the gen2 v6 takes 6.9 quarts, and the gen2 v8 takes 6.5 quarts. While the 2001 v8 does indeed specify 5w30 oil the rest of them (6's and 8's) specify 5w20.

Found this Oil Filter Study, he tested a bunch of filters that fit for his 5.0L Ford, here's a quote from the FRAM section on a PH8 filter:

"This filter cartridge has a small outside diameter with a rather low filter element surface area (193 sqin), and features cardboard end caps that are glued in place. The rubber anti-drainback valve seals the rough metal backplate to the cardboard end cap and easily leaks, causing dirty oil to drain back into the pan. If you have a noisy valve train at startup, this filter is likely the cause. The bypass valves are plastic and are sometimes not molded correctly, which allows them to leak. The backplate has smaller and fewer oil inlet holes, which may restrict flow."

I see the Motorcraft filter got a very good review, which is nice, as that's the brand I've been using. :)

So I read the whole article and He doesn't actually pick the best filter. It seemd that any Purolator (under any name) or Mobil One will be good. WHat did you guys get out of this?

I was surprised to read that the Mopar filters sucked...

Ill take a picture if need be lol.

There was a topic on here that got pretty heated about that. They changed the recommendations or something like that. Some guy made this huge ordeal as if there was some giant oil conspiracy around it.

I dont remember full detail.

Yup... I remember years ago I worked at a Napa putting myself through school. I remember the oil filter rep coming in one day and he cut open a Fram, Napa GOLD, and a Motorcraft filter.
The Fram was all cardboard inside, with glued end caps just like someone else mentioned on here. The Motorcraft was between the two in quality and had more filter area and better construction.
The Napa Gold, or Wix, was definitely the best in quality and filter area. I had never thought much about what was inside the filter since they all look alike until I actually got to see it

intresting, i bet lincolnd changed the reccomendations just to see us lincoln owners fight

Lincoln changed the oil weight recommendation to squeeze out more mpg to bring their CAFE numbers up.

That article was composed in 1996. And last updated in 2000. At BEST..that data is 9 years old. Come on.
