Ford stoped producing brake booster hose

I have replaced most hoses on engine and got around to ordering brake booster and manifold fuel vacuum hoses. After 1 month of trying to find one Tasca says that none exist and there is no restock date. Hose has built in check valve so can't be replaced with straight tubing. Might go to junk yard get an old one and cut the check valve out make a new one. This hose runs right on top of the engine from intake manifold to brake booster and is made from the same quality thermoplastic as all the other cheap crappy plastic engine parts.
 
Probably not, since some of the parts you can still get from Ford say Jaguar on them. I assume they would still be reselling this one if they could get it.

I would think that certainly you can get the check valve somewhere and cut some new hose to fit. Unfortunately, I don't know what the part number would be.

Sadly, this is a rapidly growing problem with the LS.
 
This is another reason I plan to sell my LS next year. I've had my fill of driving a car that requires a scavenger hunt every time something breaks. My last car was a Buick Reatta. 20,000 total built over 4 years, and the owners had resorted to either doing their own remanufacturing or just flat out building their own replacements. I might have been willing to do this myself since unlike the Reatta I had my LS is (accident notwithstanding) still in excellent shape, but since I don't fit well into it I'm not interested in going through it.


Back to the main subject. Brake check valves are pretty standard in operation if not in shape. All it does is allow the engine to pull vacuum on the booster, then close off when the vacuum on the engine size drops off allowing the booster to remain under vacuum. Therefore it's just a matter of visiting the parts store to match up the hose diameter on the existing part to the vacuum valves they have in stock. It might even be possible to make it look like the jury-rigging is how the factory did it.
 
Thank You both for your reply. How would you spec out a check valve? Are they rated in "H2O to open? What would the vacuum be in this line? Between cost and scarsity of parts this car is becoming a PIA.
 
There's no rating, it's just a one-way vacuum valve. Vacuum can pull one way, not the other.
Find a parts store that has helpful clerks and start digging. They are available for old cars, but the ones most common are 90 degree - 3/8" inlet into the side of a large disk, and 3/8" outlet on the bottom of the disk - to plug into the front of a brake booster.
 
Alldata shows the check valve as a replaceable item. ~$22 and 24 minutes labor. I would also try Chapman Ford (previously 5-Star Ford; Max's old haunts). They seem to have many parts.

That would be a good idea and I wouldn't wait too long to do it. As I've mentioned before my last car was a Reatta. Many of the... what am I saying, Buick only made 20,000 of them, a few of the owners were buying all the Reattas they could lay their hands on just for the purpose of being able to keep their one car running. I figure there's probably only 1500 or so Reattas still on the road today, if that.

According to Wiki there were a total of about 263,000 LS's made so it shouldn't be too hard for you to land a couple if you can store them. You might even be able to buy one with the same colors and options as your daily for those little leaf spring incidents. :D
 
It has been in the back of my mind for awhile but this thread has basically solidified my decision. Just need to find a decent Sport version to purchase. If anyone sees a good example of one relatively close to Ohio, let me know. Preferably with medium or dark shade of gray interior.
 
Found a vacuum check valve online Dorman P/N 47149. A few feet of 5/8" hose, new clamps and it should good for another 100k.
 
I'm working 7 days a week due to Sandy. I will pursue this eventually, hopefully before it cracks and fails.
