Hi guys I feel like a total idiot right now. I got my second Ls in September. Now that its December and I have had time to cool down and relax because the car I always talked about and said was the best car I ever had over a 7 series BMW and a escalade is back in my garage. I even told myself when I had the 2001 that if I could do it again I would have a 2006 with the less miles I can find but was almost sure it would never happen. Today I have a 06 with under 100k. Now back to the hold idiot thing. I drive my 2001 like a mad men and had to learn about the coils valve cover gaskets and plastic cooling parts the hard way. After count less coils being replaced I got around to the gasket and ended the madness but learn this car is he'll in fire in that department. So with that said why on earth would I get this one when I could smell burn oil on test drive (red flag) and I had to being it back to have one coil replaced the next day I should have demanded a gasket change and all coils replaced at that time. Idiot idiot idiot. Well no I will have to do it my self. I'm not to worried after I have did a lot of stupid stuff on the 2001 and learn better my space for new stupid stuff is very slim switch a small cooling hose and air intake hose on my 2001 started car got a loud pop car stopped running and would not start again. I had to drop a little oils in all the spark plug holes put everything back together and it started with white smoke out the tail pipes and over heating sure it was a head gasket or worse at that point sold it for $1500. Trust I have learn the hard way but anyone no of anything I my not be aware of that's difference from first gen and second gen. The process I remember is disconnect battery remove the cover over coils remove coils and plugs then remove the other bolts around valve cover and there it is replace in reverse

I think the second gens are easier to do than the first gens, so it may not be as big a problem for you this time. I didn't have to change valve cover gaskets on mine, but I did all the plugs on mine and it wasn't difficult at all. There was one screw on the driver side COP cover that was a bit tricky but aside from that, easy peasy.
