208,000 original miles. I am the second owner . . . had it since 2002 (50,000 miles) . . . had been a Lincoln-Mercury dealer's personal car . . . bought it from George Wall Lincoln-Mercury in Shrewsbury, NJ.

Was my daily driver. Minor flood damage (from hurricane Sandy) . . . water got up to lug nuts (just a bit above the door sills) and carpets were wet . . . was only in the water for about an hour and a half at high tide. Starts and runs but air ride suspension went down two days after the storm. Many recently new parts including suspension air bags front and rear, radiator . . . have much of the paperwork for documentation. Lots of other things replaced over the years. Had a professional headlight restoration done a few months before the storm. Needs a new driver's seat . . . six-way adjust system has stripped gears . . . not storm damage. Toreador Red Metallic with clean grey leather interior. Not smoked in . . . ashtrays never got dirty. A few "battle scars" on the body but nothing major. Good tires . . . lots of miles left on them.

Great factory installed JBL sound system . . . 10 CD changer (with two magazines), cassette player, AM(Stereo)/FM(Stereo) radio. V8 motor strong . . . no signs of transmission problems. Plus or minus 20 mpg. Runs fine on regular.

I had a Mark VII LSC (bought brand new '84 from Irwin L-M in Freehold, NJ . . . first model year when it was still also a Continental) before and really loved and took care of this car . . . religious oil and filter changes. Clean title.

It's a "whole car." Would love to have done a ground up restoration but can't handle that right now. $3500 OBO. Sold "as is." Buyer assumes transportation costs. (Car is in Atlantic Highlands, NJ.)

Correct me if I'm wrong. I must be missing something. This car had salt water in it for an hour and a half, air ride is out, seat track is out, it has dents and scratches on faded paint, 208,000 miles and could use a "ground up restoration". And you feel you had to raise the price $1000? What does a Mark VII have to do with it? How is this car worth anywhere near $3500? Good Luck!

1998 Lincoln Mark VIII

Hi,

Thanks for writing!

The water was only up to the lug nuts and door sill. It was nowhere near submerged. Actually, the paint is quite beautiful . . . not faded at all. Quite remarkable for a 15-year old car. (A few dings should be expected.)

My original asking price (OBO) was $3500 but it was a typo . . . tried to but couldn't edit my post when I realized it but sysop Joey helped me out.

As I said, it was my daily driver until the storm. Doesn't need a "ground up restoration" but, if money were no object, that's what I would do.

The reason I mentioned the Mark VII was to illustrate the fact that I'm a "Mark guy" . . . if you know what I mean.

I am very fond of this car . . . as I was the VII . . . and would restore her to her complete former beauty but, for financial reasons, I can't at this time.

I'm just trying to find her a good home.

I paid $4750 for my superb 97 Black/black LSC, one-owner California garage queen with 61K miles on it. Now you can understand the mileage/condition issue with your asking price. My car is near perfect.
