hey quik do u experience the coil pack problems too and if not wat did u do to fix it or wat can u do to fix or slow it down

I would think if you need to ask quik a question (even though the answer has been covered here 1000 times) you could send him a pm...

ive never seen it covered and theres 1000 posts on the coil packs so im not takin the time to go thru 1000 different posts to find the answer to a small question that MIGHT not even be in there i dont have enough time srry

so you ask quik so he can spend the time explaining it to you so you don't have to research it?

he's posted it in probably each one of those threads, and its in the tech articles, it even has the part numbers.... not that hard to find.

sorry - traveling back yesterday.

to sum it up...

coils fails for two reasons:
1) engine heat - no solutions but to swap faulty coils
2) leaky valve cover gaskets let oil into the plugs wells - solution is to replace the gaskets with the re-designed ones and swap the faulty coils

There are several aftermarket companies noew design 'better' coils for Fords - nothing for the 3.9L yet.

you really should read the other thread - you will learn

speaking of improved coils... I know someone is working this issue with GMS, but I just noticed MSD is making a Coil On Plug unit for the 05-up mustangs; has anyone contacted them about the LS?

yes - I read about them in a Dec issue of Fast Fords - they only have a very limited offering:
Ford Coil-on-Plug, ’99-’04, 4.6L SOHC, individual (PN 8242)
Ford Coil-on-Plug, ’99-’04 ,4.6L SOHC, set of eight (PN 82428)

When I contacted them about our discusion Nate they told me they dont have any, but if they get enough referals they can look into it.

Meaning if they get enough people calling in and asking about them and other such feed back towards the company inquiring.

don't hold your breath - remember they have one Ford application - one of the most popular motors ever.... so it is not likely to happen for us.

maybe - however, they understand how many engines have been built, what their likely market penetration is and how many they would have to sell to offset their R&D, manufacturing and inventory costs.

The low production numbers, the fact the car is dead, and the few number of DIYers in the Lincoln owner profile - does not show a large market to anyone.

We can't get very many aftermarket parts - buy OE or make them ourselves - just a fact of life.

don't get me wrong, I'm willing to rattle their chain a little, but I'm not really expecting a whole lot either. The GMS coils have been "in the works" for how long now? I was just curious if anyone inquired.
