Fixed tranny problem now the AC?~

I finally seem to have fixed the issue with my mark viii popping out of gear randomly, turns out all i had to do was drain the extra transmission fluid ( thanks to a syphon pump) and refill it back up to normal levels ( mercon V). Seems to be running fine now.
Now I'm trying to fix my air conditioning. I though it was low on freon maybe but I connected one of those recharge kits and it keeps going between 25 and 45 psi which is where its supposed to be but heres the thing, the ac keeps turning on and off. It cycles like every 2 or 3 seconds. When it turns on the gauge goes down to 25 and thats when it turns off and goes back up to 45 psi.....the question is if it kept running would the gauge show it as being low on freon but I'm afraid to put more in when that might now be the problem. Any ideas?

if its cycling fast, either it needs freon or the low psi switch is bad

so how much did you add so far?

does it get cold at all?or do the metal lines near the accum get cold at all?if they are getting cool but not cold,i would say add alittle more and see,as you add it,if the problems is low freon,the cycling on and off will lessen,if it doesnt,like chicken said,check your switch on the accum.

Then again, if the high side is over pressurized, it will also cycle on and off.

I haven't added any so far im afraid of overfilling it because according to the gauge it seems to have enough, the lines are cool though, just not any of the ac blowing in the car.

I am willing to bet you a can of soda that you are about a pound low of R-134a.

i agree.other than a blockage,if you were too much freon it would still run long enough to throw at least some cool air inside.

throw 12+ ounces in and try again

in general a little too much would only degrade your level of cooling somewhat,which you currently dont have anyway,way too much would raise the high side pressure and trugger the high side switch,shutting down your a/c
a/c systems on cars have protection for too little and too much freon,of course if you have too much in there you will be fine,but dont plan on running it for 10 years like that.add half a can and see if anything chages,you wont do any harm putting 12 oz or less in.if it helps ,then go from there.

Well thanks for you help everyone, once I started filling it, the a/c would take longer cycles until finally it stayed on and is now blowing very cool.
