I have noticed a few threads recently that were specifically about coil issues and others inquiring about the chugging and poor drivability which is a definate sign of a coil problem. Just wanting to let people know that i was driving around for a few months with this problem and in the meantime getting pretty crappy mileage, around 16-17 mpg, and that was during the cooler winter months. I just had the car serviced and they found only one bad coil that was causing all the problems. Since getting that one coil replaced the car has been driving great and i have increased my mileage by about 2-3 mpg to 19-20 mpg. My point being if you suspect something is wrong dont delay in getting it fixed. The benefits are great and your car will return the love.

Mine is doing something funny lately and at first I thought it was the transmission lockup converter because it will hesitate while doing about 50mph with slight throttle (enough to get up a long hill). Now I suspect a coil because when it does this, I get interference over my speakers and it sounds like a tick. Its not an issue 99% of the time so I'll wait until it worsens. Throwing it down into D4 usually stops it.

I do a lot of highway driving and when everything is fine i average 24-25mpg (2004 V8). My service dept. will only replace the coils that go bad because the warranty only covers them and I am not going to pay out of pocket to have the others replaces, hense this past year I have been to the shop 3 times with 5 replaced so far. I alway know when one is going out because the mileage drops by 2-3 mpg. Fla02LS uou make a good point.

how can you tell if your warranty is still valid? i bought an aftermarket warranty when i bought the car. also, i've been getting 14-16mpg since i bought it 4 months ago. think it could be a coil? when i drive all highway, like 70mph for awhile, i get about 22mpg.

Your '05 LS will be covered until 100k miles in regards to the coils. I am getting 26 mpg on the highway with the cruise set at 72mph.

Yup, noticed this as well, though mine would trip the CEL and run rough under seemingly random conditions (usually a cyl #5 and sometimes #5+6 code). With all new Visteon COPs, I now get +2-3 mixed mpg.

Yeah that would make sense.

Running proper=Better mileage.

I know i know, i was thinking with so many new LS owners on here i'd hopefully give them a kick in the butt to go get it taken care of. There is no reason why anyone with a '03-06 LS should be dealing with a bad coil. Take it to the dealer and get that sh!t fixed free. Odds are if you suspect a bad coil it probably IS a bad coil. I'm seeing a few people thinking tranny first as the cause of the shaking/stuttering. The transmission is usually pretty solid in the LS.

See your point, agreed.

I have no driveability issues with mine but wonder if they are weak sometimes with 95k. I have never had a issue with them.....

Knock on wood.

I wish I could agree but the Lincoln Warranty on coils only covers the bad one. (at least that's what the dealer says). Last time I had one replaced I also had them put in a new set of plugs. I told them I would pay for the coils if they would just replace the remainder. They wanted $100 per coil (appx. $60 on Ebay) and labor. I told them that was rediculous - LABOR? They were replacing the plugs anyway so just put new coils on with the plugs. Nope, they just wanted my money. So, in the end I decided to let it come out of their pocket one coil at a time.

Not a good way to build loyal customers.

Mine acts the exact same way. Yours doesn't throw a CEL, does it? Mine doesn't, and I've taken both drivers and passengers side coil covers off and the wells are as clean as can be.

I was getting 13.5MPG too but once I put in the KKM intake filter I am getting 19mpg in city and 24mpg in highway

Try giving that a try buddy..since you are from Washington too :-D

does that apply to V6 also?

I have the exact same issue coupled with a rough idle on cold start that sounds like a misfire. Haven't looked at the coils yet. I think I'll hit the dealer and bring up that TSB (there is one for hesitation between 20-50 but mine is always right about 50...think it has more to do with it being under 2k RPMs) and the transmission fluid additive while they're at it.

no check engine light. its a relatively new issue. it could simply be heat too.
