Feedback on gen1 vs gen2 reliability improvements

I am a proud owner of a 2000 LS that has served as a nice vehicle so far. I'm looking at upgrading to a gen2 LS (possibly 2006) and I would like some feedback on reliability issues associated with the Gen2's.

Some of the more prominent issues I've addressed with my gen1 with 160k miles:
Leaking valve cover gaskets, COPs, window regulators, new rearend, cv axles, new transmission (at 125k), hydraulic fan, fuel pump, overheating issue related to T-stat, auxiliary pump failure.

I'm very handy and have fixed all of these issues myself on my gen1 but I realize that I won't have time for these kinds of repairs in the near future since I'll be starting a 4 year grad program next year. By upgrading to a gen2 LS, would I be buying into many of the same problems that I've already repaired on my gen1?

Any and all input on gen2 reliability would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Both my '06s have been pretty much problem free. The only mechanical issues I've encountered are a DCCV (warranty) and a #4 coil on one (~55K miles) and a upper radiator hose on the other (~80K miles). I will be replacing the shocks on the higher mileage LS soon and I did do the plugs about 15K miles ago. Mine (the one with ~84K miles now) has a high pitched whine that is attributed to a conflict between the THX/NAV and the Advancetrac self-check. It only happens the first trip through ~3K rpm after engine start. I think I have it narrowed down to the right front speaker but just don't have the time to go further.

Were I to get another LS it would definitely be an '06. They didn't make that many so your choices may be limited.
 
I own an '06 LS and have only had issues with the rear toe-links and sway bar end-links. Other then that it's been the regular 30K maintenance and soon 60K.

As an added bonus, the '06 has the LSE trim (minus the spoiler) which really makes the car look better in my opinion.

About the only thing I would change about the car is I wish it had the better stereo in it, and HID headlights. Both are pretty insignificant considering they can easily be added.
 
Both my 06 and 04 have been pretty good as cars go. I do think that more reliable COPs and DCCVs could have been designed and produced, but I'm willing to live with those rare issues. (Four COPs on the 04 and one DCCV, so far none of those failures on the 06)

Of course, generally speaking a car that is up to six years younger is going to do better anyway (2006 compared to 2000).

Personally, I've yet to find anything else that I like as well (all around) for close to the price of the LS. If money were no object, it would be different...
 
I've had both A 2000 V8 and now my 2006 V8. Aside from a few random check advanced track flashes and an O2 sensor (my own fault) I haven't had any problems with my 06 . For the money, I couldn't find anything that compared. Now my 00 was just one big mess. But now that it's gone I miss it.
Do you plan on selling you're 2000 or keep it ? Just curious.

Unfortunately I'll need to sell my current LS. The body is all original and the exterior/interior are pretty much excellent. I have some unique mods (~$1000 retrofitted projector headlights and fogs that perform fantastic and look OEM) and I know that these types of mods won't help to sell the car to the average consumer. I'm not sure what my car is worth.

well before you sell it post some of them mods up for sale on here and Im sure one of us would like to buy them and switch out factory parts.
