Monday morning on my way to work the car suddenly went into failsafe mode while driving down the freeway. Thankfully I was close to an off ramp so I headed for the parking lot. Ford's Roadside Assistance hauled the car to a dealership where it was determined that my throttle body needed to be replaced (codes: p2107 & p2110; PPT DV 18 found an intermittent short inside of the throttle actuator control motor assy. resistance values dropped below 1 ohm. replaced electronic throttle body).

So, the car is fine now. Just got it back today. Also, I just received my KKM filter. So my question is, should I drive it stock for a while to be sure that the problem is solved or should I go ahead and add it right away?

I would add it. If it happens again, I would swap the #4 and #1 coils, as that's usually the sign that the ECM is getting interference from a bad #4 coil.

I wouldn't. In the off chance something happens in that general area with the air intake system, the Ford dealer might be apt to blame it on your intake system and not cover it under warranty, if you are under one. I'd give it a few weeks to make sure the problem is cleared then put it on there.

Just put it on, I've never heard of an intake causing TB failure; unless it's a cheap intake that broke apart and got sucked in, but you'd have more than just TB problems lol.

Worse case scenario, you'll just have to put the stock airbox in BEFORE taking it to Ford.

So keep your stock airbox and appropriate tools in your trunk, just in case... :shifty:

"This is Roadside Assistance. We'll have a tow truck to you in 20 minutes"

Me: "better make it 30 minutes. I need to replace some stock parts on the shoulder of this freeway." :D

I probably will give it a few weeks. Actually, I'll be on vacation for one of those weeks but it'll probably be mid-April by the time it goes on the car. I should have a good idea of whether or not the new TB is gonna hold up by then.

My 04 did exactly what yours did for the past 3.5 years, but never a code, and worse yet after flashing the Failsafe Mode message, the engine would die. Drove my crazy until just last month when a code finally recorded. The Dealer replaced the throttle body and so far no problems. I have been using my KKM throughout this process, so it is up to you. I think that I might drive for a day or two before installing the KKM just to keep things uncomplicated. BTW, my dealership has never questioned the KKM when I was in for warranty work.:)

State of the art TB

Thanks Ford...of all the throttle bodies I have had in Mustangs, not one throttle cable ever needed to be replaced. I wonder if Lokar can hook me up? Just kidding.:D

TBW is the only reason why I will never buy an 03+ LS.
Actually, the TBW has improved a lot with the new one they installed recently on my 04. All the suddenness and touchy/delayed throttle response has smoothed out to more like a cable throttle. Although I agree with keeping things simple, it is an unfortunate fact that if an F-16 can FBW, it is only a matter of time till all automotive controls, throttle, brakes, steering and gear changes will be by wire through a computer.
