Well went to Autozone and they read my code was a P0460 which is a failed fuel level sending unit. I've noticed that if I put like 5 bucks of gas in it usually doesn't register. If I put $10+ in there it actually does register though. The weird thing is when I put 5 bucks of gas in today it did register. Anyone ever encounter this problem?

Well.... $5 is barely a gallon and a quarter. That's about, what, 1/17th of a tank? I wouldn't expect to see any change in the displayed level...

Works as designed.
"The instrument cluster uses 4 different operating modes to calculate the fuel level:
• Anti-slosh (default mode)
• Key OFF ftieling
• Key ON fueling
• Recovery
After a fuel fill up, the time for the fuel gauge to move from empty (E) to full (F) ranges from 2 seconds to 55
minutes depending on which operating mode the fuel gauge is in.
The default fuel gauge mode is called the anti-slosh mode. To prevent fuel gauge changes from fuel slosh (gauge
instability due to changes in fuel sender readings caused by fuel moving around in the tank), the fuel gauge takes
approximately 55 minutes to go from empty (E) to full (F).
The key OFF fueling mode (2 seconds to read empty [E] to full [F]) requires 3 conditions be met:
• The key must be in the OFF position when refueling the vehicle.
At least 15% of the vehicle's fuel capacity must be added to the fuel tank.
• The instrument cluster must receive a valid key ON fuel sender reading within 1 second of the key being put
into the RUN position. The key ON sample readings are considered valid if the fuel sender reading is between
15 ohms ± 2 ohms and 160 ohms ± 4 ohms.
If these conditions are not met, the fuel gauge stays in the anti-slosh mode, which results in a slow to read full (F)
event."

15% of 18 gallons is 2.7 gallons.

This is very in depth thank you! This makes since as to why it would take so long. Would this be the reason it is throwing a code?

Do you mean is it throwing a code because you added less than two gallons? The answer to that is no.

If the fuel gauge reading is mostly correct, I'd just leave it till it got worse. GM has some kind of additive to put in the gas that is supposed to help with marginal fuel level senders. You might try some of that.

Alright will do! Will look that up and see what the additive is. Thanks again! Maybe some SeaFoam would work?
