Well, I had an appointment yesterday to have my tranny flushed, my Factory Tech seperator plate installed from scp, 3qt scp tranny pan/filter, but the tranny pan didn't come until today so i cancelled my appointment yesterday. The main reason i cancelled though, is because i'm unsure of this Factory Tech seperator plate i had ordered from SCP. The guy said it's better than doing a JMOD, but i'm unaware. I have a 98 LSC and i'd like to do a tranny flush pretty quick, but i'm not doing it without some type of internal modification to make it shift better.
I already purchased the Factory Tech seperator plate, i probably should have done a little more research, but i was excited, lol. Does anybody know about or use the Factory Tech seperator plate in their 97 or 98 Mark VIII's? Or what would be the best "shift kit" for the 97-98 Marks? I'm really curious about this Factory Tech though, any information would be very useful. Thank you i appreciate the help!

Your gonna read this twice: lol

I have never heard of this plate. My 2 cents:

The JMod was designed by one of the engineers of your trans. No one will know it or know its limits better. And its virtually free!

The plate you bought is a product, they want to make money - of course its better!

Honestly IMO, if I were going to put a shift kit in a mark, I'd probably just go to Advance and order a B&M kit. I mean yes my truck is a GM but the thing SLAMS into gear and I've heard of other guys around my school putting B&M kits in their fords and saying they worked quite well. I've also heard the JMOD is pretty sweet also... I believe there is a Tech article on this site on it... take a read through it and see what you think. I'm sure either would yield a pretty noticeable gain in shift quality but then here the game of "which is better" gets juggled around a lot. So honestly it might come down to the $50 or so difference of the shift kit and JMOD or if I really couldn't decide I might even consider flipping a coin. LOL

P.S. It might also be a factor of who's doing it. Are you doing it yourself or are you having someone help/do it for you? If you took your Mark to a tranny shop or whatever and said you wanted a JMOD done, they might not have any idea in what you're talking about, but they'll definitely know what they're doing when it comes to just installing a shift kit. (well I'd hope so if they're a tranny shop) And if you're doing it yourself, maybe consider following the directions on the Tech article....?

Hope it helps

Seriously?

Well you did post this on two separate Mark VIII forums, here and Mark VIII.org.

That post just took away all credibility you didnt have.

Yeah, well, I think i'll probably just order the Bauman ReCal Pro Valve Body recalibration kit. It's $114 but hopefully SCP will take back my Factory tech and give me credit. I've been trying to call Bauman but no answer yet, prolly cuz i'm central time. Just because i can't get any feedback on the Factory tech except that they're made for a "truck" and they're "one size fits all". So, that's my plan :D I guess i don't feel like pullin' my valve body off and start drillin holes out bigger. Just isn't a comforting thought, althought it may work just fine and dandy for another 100k miles, it's the thought that counts. When it comes to tranny especially i'd rather go with the best, cuz i hate havin trannies go out :( very sad. Is getting the Bauman a good idea? The recal pro? I'm just assuming here so far, i haven't talked to Bauman yet, but i'm trying. Thanks!

Just to clarify, you dont drill the valve body, just the separator plate the holes already exist, just making them a hair bigger. BELIVE ME, it looks intimidating but it was one of the EASIEST thing I have done to my Mark

you can't go wrong with Baumann either, that's what's in my black mark. There are also I think like 5 performance settings, so you can choose which one is best for you.

okay, so what? I could understand if it was Advance Auto BRAND, but B&M is actually a decently credible company. An instructor at my school that builds race transmissions actually suggested B&M to me and said he uses them on an occasion with pretty good results. I put one in my truck and for how easy it was, the price, and the way it shifts I think it was plenty worth it.

B&M and 4r70w don't go together... either Baumann or J-Mod is the way to go. Transgo is alright but the other two options are better.

Is B&M the pressure increasing thingy? Is so, I can see why it would trash one of our trans, line pressure is the enemy, especially with the vulcanized check balls in the valve body (read not metal).

Well for my truck it just came with a spring for the pressure regulator valve in the pump, accumulator spacers, drill bits and anvil for the seperator plate and all the gaskets... And I apologize I'm actually not all that familiar with Ford trannies.

Gotcha, sound like a combo of line pressure, yet relives that pressure through the modified plate. I think :)
