F900BT Installation Questions

I am installing an F900BT. I have a 2006 LS. There are 4 connectors going to the factory radio, but the SCOSCHE kit only has 2. The small connector has 2 blue wires and 2 RCA's.

Are 2 of the 4 connectors just not used or do I have to do something with them?

Are the 2 RCA's on the small connector going to rear outs or sub outs?

There is a small amp in my trunk between two speakers in the rear.

Also, will my 2 center console speakers still work?

You don't need the other two plugs for your aftermarket radio. The 8-pin connector with the RCAs is for the rear sub-woofers and the center console speakers. (One of the RCAs is for the rear subs, and the other is for the center console speakers.) The blue wires are the turn on wires for the center console amplifier and for the sub-woofer amplifier.
You will want an adapter to sum together the stereo outputs from the F900 to feed into these inputs. (You also need to use 1K ohm resistors is series with the connections to the amplifier turn-on, otherwise they will make a popping noise at turn on and turn off.)

I am assuming you mean an adapter that takes both the left and right to one RCA. Will that cause phase cancellation?

Also, do I use the Sub out on the Pioneer or the rear out RCA's?

Also, what do I hook the blue wires for the amps to?

There's no need for the 5V regulator. It's current you want to limit, not voltage. Take it from an electrical engineer. 1/4W resistor is big enough.
Any of these will work.

Thanks Joe - must have gotten my wires crossed (pun intended) on that one. I thought I had read in one thread somewhere in here where the Pioneer head is sending a 12V signal, and the amp is expecting a 5V signal.

Since you're really helping both Opie and I out (I have an 06 and will be doing my F90 install next week), can you be a little more detailed on what needs to be done for connecting the mono sub and effect speaker amps to the Pioneer? I have the Skosche harness kit already, but cannot see the factory harness or the Pioneer harness yet. I suppose I could download the Pioneer install manual, but still can't look at the factory harness yet.

I'm trying to get all my ducks in a row so that I won't get stuck or confused midway through the install.

I can snap some pics for you. After Joe explained the signal to the subs and center console with y adapters, that made sense and tying the 2 blues together to the Pioneer harness.

My install is going to be delayed as it is appearing that I am going to have to send my unit off for repair. I can only hit my screen once then it doesn't work any longer. The other buttons work and it will play CDs but I think the touch screen controller is messed up.

I will keep you posted.

Ouch - that stinks, Opie! Before you send the unit out, I'd recommend doing one or both of the following:

1. Go ahead and do the 3.0 update. If something was changed on in the head unit's configuration, this will reset it back to default settings.

2. If you've already done the 3.0 update, and this is still there, I'd recommend getting the current testmode files from avic411.com and trying to boot straight into Windows CE to see if the problem is there as well. That will tell you if there's an issue with the head unit or if it's just a configuration issue with the software that's installed on it.

You'll need to get at least 1 2Gb SD card for the testmode files, but they are pretty cheap. It's recommended to have one or two anyway so you can back up your head unit's files in the event you need to restore them for something.

That's just my take after reading quite a few threads in avic411.com. Maybe some of the other Avic F90/900 could posts some more advice or insight.

Yeah, I thought about the test mode. Problem is I just sold my 2000LS and my dash is hanging out in my 2006. I have to deliver the 2000 tomorrow.

I will try tonight. I have a 2GB sd card.

I was able to do the 1st part of the 3.0 upgrade, but when it asks for the passcode, I can only hit continue but cannot input the passcode so I can't get to the screen to enter the code to see if the rest will work.

I'll do some digging in avic411 to see if anything else turns up that might be worth trying. I still need to firm up everything I'll need to do for the Bypass (parking brake and mute wires), so I'll be in that site for those reasons anyway.

If you look for f900 or f90bt on youtube, there are some good videos that show you how to do it.

I searched on the 1 touch problem and there were several that had it but couldn't find a solid resolution. One guy who demos the problem on Youtube had to send his back.

Okay. Booted to safe mode but when I push the first thing, it is like holding down the mouse button and you cannot do anything else so I am pretty sure I have a hardware problem at this point. Similar to a stuck touchpad on a laptop. At least this gives me some general direction.

Snapped some pics. Will post later however it is kind of a mess. I will write out the corresponding colors and where things go as I understand them and as Joe explained the RCA connectors and the amp turn on wires w/ the resistors.

Just got the factory radio back in and buttoned up. Will upload pics later.
