I keep reading about the 3rd cat, and hard to get a shop to remove it. I think were talking about #3 in pic. #3 on parts list is not a catalytic converter. #6 is converter and (2) required. I got this from Gen 1 book. Show this to a shop, and they shouldn't have a problem. 3rd cat-2.jpg3rd cat.jpg

most shops don't care about the manual, they care about a $$$$ fine for removing a cat....call it a resonator, y-pipe, whatever....if they want the job they'll cut it

+1, call it a Resonator and they'll cut it out, call it a 3rd cat and get told Nope

Most of the exhaust shops I have talked to cannot remove anything they think might be a cat. However, if you cut it off and bring the car to them, they can weld a pipe in its place and not run any risk of a fine. At least that is what I have been told.

That works too, if you've got the ability to get under it and cut

A jack and sawsall. Don't need much more then that!

Not necessarily a comfortable way of doing it, but it works ;)
