Exhaust rattle???

01ls5speed,

I think your rattle is more along the lines of what Alax7 was talking about. Some people on here have taken out the resonators and put mufflers on only to get a rattle or raspiness. Like Alax7 said and from what I have read an X pipe should help with that.

I have a rattle type noise, but I figure mine is from leaning out on tip-in. New fuel pump still on order.

jesus pete, you have been talking about replacing the fuel pump for about a decade now, sh!t or get off the pot :D

i did just start getting rattle from above the mufflers, but you can only hear it from certain bass notes, i think its the heat shield, but i dont want to put any dynamat on it and have to smell burnt rubber all the time

I know right? I just spent $200 on cigars, bu tcan't bring myself to spend 140 on the pump. Good thing I waited though. Since I can get a Walbro 255 direct replacement now. :D

well then you better get to it bro:cool:

Back to the OP's topic:

Seems like I have the rattle too: I was driving on an empty street, this time w/ my window down. Gave it a bit of gas (almost WOT), let go of the throttle and heard a rattle for about .5 sec. I reproduced this 3x afterward.

So now I have a chirp from a warped rotor, and exhaust rattle. :D

I've heard other cars do it too, I wonder how common it is and if it's an actual problem or not? It almost seems like as soon as pressure develops it silences it.

For anyone who has the metal grinding noise from under the car that comes and goes with engine RPM (mine is only after it warms up) I *HOPE* I just resolved mine. I yanked off all the heat shields I could get to and it was STILL happening right at 2k RPMs and a little at 1,500. As I was putting the largest heat shield (under the resonators) back on today I heard a clink.

There are 2 braces (more like thin straps) shoddily welded between the pipes. One side of one was broken and sounded like a great candidate for the noise when I moved the pipes around. I ripped the broken piece off and buttoned everything back up. I haven't had a chance to test drive it since my wife is out with both car seats and my daughter is home with me.

I'll report back if it worked. If it didn't I'll just start binge-drinking and get back to the crying.

LOL at the crying! Give us an update and maybe a pic of the area you are talking about? Mine seems to be from the front passenger underside of the engine area.

That's exactly where mine sounded like it was coming from. Pics in a bit.

Ok this

just in front of the resonators. There is another one after them.

I drove to church and back today and the noise is...GONE! :N
