I found these on ebay. While they are pretty, I'm more interested in functionality. Has anyone used them?

Just put a set of Visteons in today and she purrs like a kitten. Search them on Amazon, they are from AD AutoParts and will run you $185 shipped. They are the DG515 ones so they aren't the updated ones you'll get at the dealer. At the price they are selling them though you can go through 2-3 sets before the price catches up to one set from the dealer depending on where you get them.

I think I'll be buying the updated motorcraft set from Rock Auto... It's about twice the price at just under $45 per coil, but I think it will be worth the money.

Not really worth it.

The new ones are made in china and the visteons are made in hungary.

Bunch of guys here running those visteons with no issues. For the price of the updated ones you could get two sets of visteons that will most certainly last longer. Always good to have a spare set of coils. As long as the gaskets are good and your hood seal is good they should not fail.

They aren't... the covers are missing 3 bolts on each side. The passenger side is missing the threaded part in the valve cover for 2 of them.
 
Well in that case I don't know. lol

There were no oil around the plugs when I replaced them. My biggest concern is water getting in.
 
From what I've heard unless there is a defect in the firewall no water should be getting in under your hood. Anyone using the ACCEL coils is 100% without COP covers and there are some vehicles that have the coils exposed from factory iirc

I always thought it was odd myself, and my Navigator has all 8 coils exposed. Thing is, a friend of mine had a 2000 LS, and his coils went bad anytime they got wet. I didn't know if it was a defect on them or what. I still don't quite understand what the issue is with them.
 
Well they will go bad if they get wet, but they wont get wet unless you spray the engine with water.
 
Visteon coils. If I have to buy an outsourced product for my car, I'd rather them be made in Europe, rather than Motorcraps Chinese junk. I swapped COPs when I first got it. Got the updated Motorcrap ones. Had 3 fail in six months. Swapped to Visteon, and never had one problem, which reminds me, I need an extra set.

Your Navigator engine doesn't have the coils down in a valley that can fill with water. More importantly, its coils have boots that seal to the plug well, in addition to sealing to the spark plug. The LS coil boots only seal to the plug, so water can run down into the wells and fill them up and short out the coil.

I soooo want a diesel. Every car I've ever owned, I've had ignition issues of some kind. The Navigator is not without exception either. It has special plugs that prevent me from ever installing Iridium plugs (like I want), and the factory plugs it has I'm terrified to try to remove them. They have an extensive history of breaking in the head, requiring the purchase of an extraction kit ($100) to remove the broken piece. Add to the fact the plugs are $12~16 each. Except for the cost of the coils, the LS issue seems minor in comparison.
