Hello people. Im still a noob to the marks and this forum so i have been trying to better myself in the information regarding the marks.

One thing i found really odd when trying to research engine prices was that i am asked if the engine is built before 2-3-97 or after 2-4-97.

Being that im a crown vic driver. Ive never been asked when my engine was built.

The key thing(s) to know about a vic engine is w vin and if it has an oil cooler. The only non w vin vic is cng and the only vic using oil coolers are police.. pretty simple.

The only reason i can think that they ask this question is COP technology but again im no expert on these cars.

If anyone can shed light as to why this is asked and how i can tell i would be grateful

the intakes on gen 2s are different than the intakes on gen 1s. with gen 1 being 93-96, and gen 2 being 97-98. although i bet they started building 97s before 2-4-97.

then gen 2s have COP, and 96-98 have better valve springs. most everything else about the actual engine is effectively the same.

So if its an early built mark VIII 2nd gen it could have the 96 intake?

How can i tell?

Where are you in Northern AL.?

On a Gen 2 intake, the IAC is sticking right out at the top. On a Gen 1, you probably won't find it but it's in the rear passengers side of the intake. Many more differences but there is no Gen 2 from the factory with a Gen 1 intake.

1st gen. (ignore the red circle.) throttle body in the very back, snake tube intake style.
