I notice when I'm driving and I have no music playing that I can hear a really low whine either coming from the engine or transmission. Is that normal or something I should be concerned about? It's really subtle but I do hear it and it almost sounds like a whir or whooshing sound. Haven't determined yet whether I hear it with/without my HVAC turned on.

Also does the LS have a sensitive throttle tip in? I know that I'm a leadfoot but man this car jumps to 40-50 with barely any pressure on the pedal. Also seems like my speedodometer may be off by about 5 to 10mph as it seems like it likes to hover at 50mph most of the time when it only feels like im doing 40 or so...idk how to diagnose that without having the entire dash removed to check which I know is expensive.

Do you have the heated/cooled seats on? They make some noise.
Get on the interstate and go 60 MPH. It should be exactly one minute between mile markers. Alternately, if you have a portable GPS, you can compare its speed reading to your speedometer. The speedometers on my two seem to be fairly accurate. They read a mile or two higher than the true speed, and have about two mph of hysteresis.

Hehe, LQ has himself a Hot Rod Lincoln now!

When my tranny was bad, I had a whine from the solenoids I think. It was hard to say where it was coming from, I think it resonates through the drive train. Actually after a couple of days car threw its first codes, but by then I was scheduled in like you and once repaired it went away. It just might be what you have.

As far as you speed,,, try to find one of those friendly neighborhood, (or freeway), portable radar speed checkers. Is the whine ONLY when you drive? Have you tried letting the car warm up at idle,,, and listened to it as it does?

As far as the tip in issue. When I first test drove and bought my LS,,, it had the same thing. About a week later I noticed it randomly honking the horn. About a week later the battery died. I replaced the battery and did a "drive cycle" per the owners manual. It hasn't had the fast tip in since. Don't know if the "drive cycle" cured it... or if the failing battery was making the throttle quirky.

One last thought. Maye your power adjustable pedals are adjusted too high,,, giving you the quick throttle. I also know my pedals kept "walking up" on me until I reprogrammed all of the keyless remotes.
