I have a 2001 LS V8. The noise is louder at begining but gone after driven a few miles. I had replaced new belt but having same problem. Does anyone know the problem. Please let me know. Thank you.

Could be a bad/worn out belt tensioner.

Tensioners are generally supposed to be replaced every 50k miles. They wear out just like any other spring. You should also make sure there are no fluids dripping on the belt or pulleys that would cause it to slip. (power steering fluid, oil, etc)

Belt tensioner was OK when I replaced the belt. It has 80,000 miles. I will try new tensioner next. No problem, it doesn't cost a lot. Thank you.

Tensioner! Had this issue on a previous car a bunch, had to go through a couple belts before the problem was isolated.
