Can bad gas make my engine light go on? I went to Mobil gas station & used 91 octane.. My engine light went on the day after.... I was told it was problaby the gas I used....I was told to disconnect the cable from the battery & it would make my light turn off... Is this correct? Should I get the car diagnose? I have a 96 Mark VIII

IF you don't have an obdII scanner, go to autozone or advance auto and have them scan the codes. Disconnecting the battery on an obdII vehicle will only clear the KAM or Keep Alive Memory. It will not clear codes. That only happens on obdI vehicles. After you get the code, report back.

Yes, I got some crap Shell gas, it was so bad my tractor wouldn't even run on it (I filled up the Mark and the spare gas can at the same time) there was soo much water in it they closed the station till a state inspector could check into it. The state found a huge leak at the top where water would get into the main tank - and it had rained hard that week. Still trying to get them to pay for the repairs on the tractor and the Mark - ha! Glad iu can do this stuff mny selfm byt I was out $55 for the bad gas, $9.00 for a siphon kit and $50 in fuel filters.

Trick an old farm hand taught me- if you mix equal amounts of gas and antifreeze and then shake it up good -if you end up with more antifreeze than gas then the gas contained water.

After disconnecting the battery I went to Autozone to use their OBD II Scanner & no codes appeared.... Is this possible?
