hii everyone im new here. names dino =)

well i just bought a Lincoln Ls v8 2001
4 days ago with 102.000 miles
no warranty on it

well here's my story i get the car 3 days and its been perfect since then
but yesterday i parked my car and went to work..couple hours later i was leaven and went to my car started it and the engine light come on. i went and filled her up with gas. and the light was still there..so i have no idea what it could be..

any help would be great
thank you and by the way the ls is an amazing car

Bring the car to an AutoZone and have them scan the car for free. Get the code they tell you and post the info here.

Most likely a bad coil.

Good luck with the car and welcome to here.

sounds like the guy who sold u the car did the reset trick

it happened to me before

what they do is they have this little computer thingy and it plugs up to ur electrical system and they reset the light but it only lasts like 2 3 days then the light comes back up.

yeah thanks allot ill go to auto zone right now and see what they say
i was reading the forum and that's what i saw allot a bad coil resulting the engine light but i deff will go and see what they say

i really didn't know they could do that the reset trick

All they do is just what you're doing, They go to Autozone or some other parts store and just have the code(s) cleared so the light will go away.

i went to auto zone just today this morning i didn't have time yesterday cuz of work. so i went and the guy scanned it and the results

The PCM has determined that a misfire has occurred in cylinder #2.

so..what should i do now replace the spark plugs ? or what

Pull the coil and look into the plug well for signs of oil. You may even see some on the coil's boot. if you have oil on it, you're gonna need a passenger side valve cover gasket, new coil and new spark plug. If no oil, replace the coil and plug.

so should i change all the sparks and coils or just #2 once?
a coil is the part where the spark plug is located right ?
and how much does this all run for ? i know the spark plug is around $7.99 from auto zone how about the coil and valve cover gasket ?

and im planning doing this by my self..is it hard to or should i take it to a shop.?

and dude thanks for the fast reply back appreciate it alot
this is the best forum i have been at and u(NYC) know allot about the LS thanks agen bro

There are two ways to look at it. Unfortunately, I don't know which is correct.

1) There is a design issue with the coils, and they will all fail eventually.
If this is true, it is only wise to replace them all (before failure) if the new coils are a better design.

2) There are manufacturing defects with some coils.
If this is it, then it is best to keep the ones that haven't failed yet. Eventually, you'll filter all the failures out. If you just replace them all, you'll just start all over again because some of the new ones may have defects.

As said, I don't know if it's design or manufacturing. Whatever it is, I think that it is related to heat.

yeah i don't wanna waste all my money when fixing them all and then they still get mased up
i guess ill just waite and see what happens with the first one
and if other one goes bad ill fix that one and so on

so its been like a week or 2 since the light came up..funny thing just 2 days ago my light just turned off...=O..i didn't fix anything hahaha but i did fill her up with diff gas maybe that was the problem the wrong gas.. buy yeah just wanted to tell u that =D

Wrong Octane can causes misfires? never heard of that...gotta be a bad coil
I've seen people driving with wrong octane without a Check Engine light on
Plus happened to me before, light would cut off after a couple of daily start
up...this is because the coil is still working but it's bad and when it hits the
wrong note or miss the wrong note the light will come back on...fix the coil
dude......

If you put the wrong octane in you can have a cel light on for up to the next two fill ups, if you don't believe me check the owners manual. ;)

But yeah seriously, you need to fix your coils. Also if they have oil on them the valve cover seals, and I would also recommend new plugs.

Did you check your coils though?

i haven't had time to go i only went to auto zone for the read and thats all i been driven with the light on since i get the car almost..but yeah the light came back on..lol

If you don't fix it you're going to be replacing catalytic converters soon, if it starts to flash that indicates damage being done to them.

valve cover gaskets

at least its the passenger side, ive done 4 sets of these and if you are going to try and tackle it yourself i would say the passenger side is ok im ase certified and i say more cuss words doing driver side ls valve covers than a pirate. I just did mu uncle's and he had oil all the way up the plug well.
Good luck

sry to bring this back up!but what would be better for me price/shipping.etc for buying 8 Ignition Coils..
I dont know if i should buy them from autozone..but their price is around $45 for each..but then i saw the once on ebay where i can get 8 for $160.00..but i never have used ebay so idk if its safe enough and how the payments go..i read the sites info but im still not 100% sure..and i read on here some ppl got the wrong once.so idk..i really just need 8 new coils for cheap..any other place where i can get them..for cheap

Max at fivestarford? (link on right side of page)

I haven't priced coils out yet.

What brand was it that people tried from the mustang? I forget the name. But a whole set of those was about 150 IIRC.
