I have a 94 Mark VIII with 200,000 miles on it. I have a chance to pick up a low mileage 97 wreck for a sweet deal. I was wondering if I can just swap out the motors or will be a nightmare to match the 97 motor to the 94 carcuss.
Also someone told me the motors can be pulled from the top. Is this true???

Thanks for your help

You can pull the motor with trans out the top. Getting it back in can be a lot harder though :)

The engine will work fine. You will just want to re-use all the 94 sensors. You will also want to swap over your 94 intake, fuel rails, engine harness.

The 97 has COP ignition. You can convert to COP (coil on plug) if you want. Its a little work, but not too hard and will get rid of the coil packs and spark plug wires. However, if you do not you will also want to swap valve covers. If you do swap valve covers, pick up some spark plug tower seals. They go bad from milage AND age. When they do oil leaks down into the spark plug wells.

I would remove the oil pan from the 97 motor and clean and paint it and put in a new gasket, oil leaks from the pan can start to haunt older Marks, and it's a huge PITA when the motor is in the car to fix.
