I finally picked up another beauty cover for my '94 and was thinking of an idea to see if I can screw this one up too!

My idea was to use just the rear portion of the cover (wiper cowl side) and round off the edge where it connects to the other half and paint it body color like the air intake is already on my car. Maybe graft in the Mark VIII words on the right side? It would cover the ugly stuff in there and show off the Taylor wires and alternator in there!?!

I guess the biggest question I have is, does anyone know what material would be best for making the new 'edge/lip' or grafting in pieces? Will fiberglass 'stick' to the cover and will it last under the hood (temps?)

Thanks for any suggestions and tips for helping with my winter project (well, one of many!)
Jon

Sounds like a dfferent approch. I would think fiberglass would do the trick !!

I personally like the entire beauty cover. I think it looks good on our cars when its cleaned up! Your idea may work nicely though. I would like to see pics when you are done. GOOD LUCK!

I think "Beauty Cover" on Gen I is a bit of an oxymoron. I love the look of the engine with it off.

You do not think that there is too much stuff under there? even with some nice wires and such it just kinda looks cluttered. I can understand if certain componets were removed to make it look cleaner, but still the cover looks nice if it's kept clean. The rear of the engine is what doesn't look so hot. Everytime I open the hood on a mark and it's missing, it's like YUCK!

Ok.ok... It does look neater. :) I just like to ope the hood and go "see, this is what's in here." Versus "see, I can flip this up and check my power steering fluid".

Just givn ya crap. Before the swap I too liked the cover, just never had it on cause I was always doing something.

personally i like popping the hood and ppl NOT seeing whats in it. when they see the big ass heads they get scared. LOL

I did mine kinda half assed and all I did was cut of the tabs on the front of the rearward cover and sand it all smooth. Primed and painted and it looks ok. I also painted the intake tube black and wrote 'Mark VIII' on it. It looks ok but I think I'm just gonna repaint it all black. Ill try to get pics sometime.

I'd love to see it if you can!

More ideas and suggestions are welcome and thanks all for the replies so far :)

94m5, I'd love to get a cobra intake sometime, but I don't think it going to happen too soon :( I was looking through your photo gallery and love your '95, it looks amazing! I really like what you did with the interior pieces and may have to 'borrow' your idea sometime ;) I wish it was easier to convert the earlier cars to the double din setup inside as I was looking at the AIVC-D2 as well. Thanks :)

ps: I just thought of someting, my interior is tan so I don't think it would look as good with a Garnet Red trim :(

Thats looks pretty cool :) Not to fond personally of the lettering, but I do like how it turned out overall!
I finally found a cover I can mess with, but need to find the time to actually do it! lol... I'm still going to try to put a lip on it, so will post pics of it when done (when ever that may be! )
Thanks greatly for taking the time to post those up so I have an idea of what I'm getting into and how it may look :)

I have an extra on in my garage.. Who wants it!! I like the look of the engine my self, and like unity... the Damn things in the way if you need to work on the car, or play with the engine.

I love the intake on the Mark. All those tubes running everywhere, I really like how it looks. Driller's looks really nice polished and all.

Yeah I'm going to repaint the tube eventually all black. I was just playing around with some ideas and did it. Same thing with the beauty cover. I'll probably just pitch it, but it never hurts to try.

I still think the idea of a partial cover on the back is a good one, it covers the not so good looking tubes/wires/etc but leaves stuff like the plug wires/etc showing as well as the intake...

I painted mine silver, but didn't sand it well at all. I ended up spraying it flat black just to hide it some ;) I'll need to take it off and blast it then repaint once I get some orings and time :)

Not quite my cup of tea, that would look good if the lettering and intake were the same color as the car or interior or something, imho?! :) How did he decide to go with orange on a blue car? Or are the colors different than I think in that pic?

oh, lol, the pics don't do it much justice then :)
That would be a nice color combo, I like how he did that, just need better pics ;)
