Im swapping a motor and trans from a 98 lsc with 48 thousand miles on it into my base model 98 mark. my questions is, do i need to swapp out the pcm too? the donor car doesnt have a pcm in it. can i use my current one? is there anything else i need to change.

change the oil filter addapter gasket before you drop the new one in, and you might want to do the o2's while you are at it.

While the motor and trans is in fact a direct swap, the trans might need a slight adjustment due to the rear end gearing difference between LSC and base versions. You can try running the speedo gear from your old trans in the new trans as that should take care of the problem, purely to correct the shift points and governor limits.

That's true when your concern is the speedo only.
Gear swaps on a 2nd gen require even more programming than on a 1st gen car.
Yes, the speedo gear doesn't need to be swapped IF you make the necessary adjustments in the shift schedule, although even that theory goes out the window with higher HP cars and easy over rev on shifts.

The trans shift points are affected by the speedo gear on a 2nd gen car. If you don't make any adjustments in the shift points via ECU , you will see a difference in each gear top speed, and overall top speed.
