they just passed something in the state of wisconsin this month so cars '95 or older (OBD1 cars) don't have to take emissions tests anymore. my question is how much emissions crap can i tear of my car and would it even be worth it as far as gaining any performance?

Block off EGR, delete Catalytic converters. You really wont feel HUGE gains from this though. and you'll have a check engine light.

So in my opinion not worth the trouble.

back when emissions started in the 70's horsepower dropped and fule mileage dropped, they blamed it on lowering compression and more so on the emission stuff,
why doesnt eliminating that stuff help alot now?

did all that equipment get that much more efficient that it doesnt matter so much now?

My old LT1 club guys would always rub it in our faces if they didn't have emissions and removed everything. Everybody wanted that stuff off. The guys who removed it always loved the results. Only gained between 3-10 hp depending on their setups, seemed to really get the full benefit of any exhaust improvements. Yeah, they all sounded great too.:D Unless your running open headers, a little less back pressure on a full exhaust would certainly still help. Neccesary, no. Lets here from the guys who have done it. We have the same deal with emmisions here in Ill too. I'd hate to be able to finally take off the cats only to here don't bother.:( I'm still planning on removing them.

My inspection

Me: My friend **** told me you guys do inspections, can you do mine?
Inspector: is it registered?
Me: yeah, here it is
Insector (10 minutes later): Alright, pull it around so I can put the sticker on, its $100.

Gotta love RI, small state, word of mouth is great.

there is a little difference with most cars, just look at it this way, its less stuff to fail, as soon as a get a tuner im deleting all my crap

umm as far as i know there are only a few counties in WI that do emissions, all 3 of my cars are registered in WI and i have no emissions requirements, good thing too dont think my dodge would have ever passed, wish i had the time too delete my EGR system on my mark before i put in the engine but it will happen one day.

I live in Outagamie County now, but when I was in Milwaukee I would register my cars at relatives up north to skip the whole emissions thing. Not that they wouldnt pass, but why waste my time.

the check engine light will come on for obd2 cars with no cats. Wouldnt no egr hurt the car? i mean turn it off?
