I've read the instructions and tech articles and they're printed out but PLEASE are there any helpful tips to get to the Bottom back three bolts on the drivers side during a VGC change on a 2000 V8. I've been at this project for 7 hours and I'm about ready to take a blowtorch to the whole engine bay!!!!! I can't get just those two bolts off! I have no way to get at them! what did YOU do? its just sitting out there with all but those bolts removed with the hood up! the temp is dropping! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!

You have to find the perfect wrench set up with some extensions and those sockets that look like joints that you can bend and rotate. I did it about 6 months ago and it was tuff!

ok i got them off with some rarely used attatchments! now how do I remove the fuel line to get this cover off? i dont have the 1/2 inch removal tool and parts shops are closed :(

You don't have to remove the line, you can wiggle it out with that still attached, but it will take some creative thinking.

I think I got the rear bolts on my valve cover by removing the nuts that hold down the wire harness guards and pushing the harness up out of the way enough to fit a 1/4 drive ratchet back there.

In a pinch, you can use a very small tipped flat head screwdriver to push the spring inside the connection back so that you can undo the lines. If you can't get it, you're gonna have to get the right tool.

hmmm creative wiggling seems out. its the tall oil add stem on the cover thats causing all the problems. any way just to remove that?

Break it. :p It can't be removed from the outside. There are some tabs on the inside of the cover that have to be pressed in, once that's done you can twist it off, but that doesn't help you now.

poop on a stick. thank you for all the prompt replies by thew way it really mshows what this forum is all about! (or how little a nightlife on a saturday some members have :P ------ me included!) where would I put the screwdriver to disconnect? I tried pressing it in on the inside but its not releasing, is there some kind of twisting special press or something?? arrgh! SO CLOSE!

side note: I was worried that it was something else because the passenger side gaskets were black (the new color) and the coils didnt seem too bad! until I got to the driver side.. gray gaskets and oil LITERALLY POURING out of the coil!! let this be a lesson kids - always both sides at once!

Also learn your lessons from others who have made the mistakes before. I have one thread specifically about this. Make sure you have a proper workplace and tools needed!

Haha, and I see you were the last person to post on it too!

Hmmm....I could do a write up with EVERY step, tools needed, ect. since I have two engines now...

Do it as a write up for a tech article and submit it to the Godfather (Joeychgo ).

i got the cover off and the new gasket on and 11/12 bolts on too.. i ended up fabbing a release tool out of a piece of scrap metal then hammered it around a socket making just the right size and it popped the line right off! yay for ingenuity and ghetto repair! however getting the back lower bolt back on was too much at 2 am and i resigned myself to gwetting a ride to work today.. yes on easter. booooo. thanks for all the help!
