Okay yesterday I was parked at my brothers house and his driveway is a steep incline before it go's flat up to and then into the garage. The drive had two other cars in it so I had to park on the incline. I applied the e-brake before shifting into park and everything was good. I came out started the car placed my foot on brake then released the e-brake with the other foot. Today I went back over there and again had to park on incline this time however my e-brake would not work. I could hear it ratchet down but then it just came right back up with my foot as if I released it. When I got back home on level ground I tried again. Samething is happening. You can hear and feel it ratchet down but then as soon as you start lifting off it comes right back up with you. What is causing this?

Mechanism is probably just a bit sticky. Try lubing the heck out of it with PB Blaster - don't let any get on your carpet!

I had the opposite problem - brake would engage but would never release without me prying at the mechanism with a screwdriver - lube fixed it right up!
