Ebay torque converter anyone bought it?

This is way off subject... well, not really... but anyway

I've got a 98 F-150 4x4 with the 4R70W... I've put a B&M shift kit in it and intend on throwing this extended capacity pan at some point, but I have to drop one of the cross members to do it. Anyhow...

I'm thinking about trying to find a good trans to replace this one with; something built to stand more abuse and higher HP... also something that will drop right in. So I'm assuming 4R70W as well. Can anyone direct me to a supplier of High performance 4R70W's? I've found plenty of AOD tranny guys, but that's not going to work with my computer.

So I guess that is somewhat applicable; marks use the same trans...
 
You really need to understand HOW a TC does what it does, before swapping one.
Your "assumption" is setting yourself up for a major dissapointment.

If you take a 2800 stall out of a 320 HP car and put it in a 280 HP car it is NOT gonna be a 2800 stall, it's going to be significantly less.

who said anything about having 280 hp?

You are seriously over complicating this whole process. I recomend you log off the internet, drive you car to a trans shop and have them rebuild your trans before you hurt yourself.

I was referring to the approximate HP of a near stock mark 8.

you dont have any significant mods that would alter than number by any "LARGE MARGIN" so it was a safe assumption..

Show me a dyno sheet that your car is making more than 280 HP and then spit hairs with me about HP figures.

nitrous yes.. but are you spraying the car on the launch? NO.. so it's irrelevant to the conversation.

If you are spraying the launch and the shifts..
no wonder your OWC is history and putting a later trans even a truck trans isn't going to allow you to "spray the shifts"
..and unless you have a 3K or up stall.. you really REALLY shouldn't be spraying the launches.. either.

I know a guy on another board. He built my 4R70W good to 550hp for for a good price and has built trans for other guys on that board who are making real hp and has a good rep. I will find his number and PM you with it.
 
Oh ok. Just checking. From the way this thread has gone, I thought that he was calling the trans crossmember a k factor. lol
 
correct.. the K factor is the amount of torque multiplication not really representitave of stall speed.

ok this white plug on the trans, thats the plug that i repin on my mark right?
Also, on the front of the trans looking at the converter... that like side ear i should hack saw that off so it doesnt get hung up? the thing on the left side if if your facing it?
