Ebay torque converter anyone bought it?

put in new merc 5 and filter when i did my j-mod, it made it worse.

If I were you I would get a MM covnerter straight from Max any day before some craptastic ebay pos. Drop the trans and slap in a new oem converter and rest easy and enjoy driving your car.

i am kinda thinking about that ebay convertor, seeing how mine has the standard shudder to it now.

Have you done the merc 5 upgrade.

my 95 had a terrible shudder at 68,000 miles

I did the merc 5 swap and it didn't fix the problem.... until about 20K later.

I was "almost" at the point of replacing the convertor.. and BAM the problem dissapeared.

just a thought from the far side.. it might be as simple as 60.00 fix.

no, OWC is definetly gone. I replaced the fluid and filter just to see if that would do anything and investigate debris. Not much debris but little plastic pieces but from the symptoms its defietly the OWC.

The jerry write up for the bullet proof really stresses a 5.4 trans because its "beefed up". Suprised not many just pop one of those in. They have the same TC as the mark 11 inch and same k factor so im guessing there should be no reason going with the mustang gt one.

The biggest thing is that rooster comb lever because mark and mustang have different part numbers. I may just take that to a trans shop and have them swap it out while there both out.

just spend the money and fix it right, and stop asking about cheap ass converters.

or just buy one and see if it holds together, and when it fails and wipes out the trans dont say you were not warned,

sounds like its crap to me

Don't waste your time with less than a 3500 rpm stall, anything less is pointless.

If your going to spend the money on aftermarket TC then I agree. With 4.10s 3500 is the way to go.

The MM or Mach 1 converter is almost the exact same stall btw, you will notice no difference in stall between a functioning Mark converter and either of those convereters.

True but they have the best parts for an OEM replacement.

Rich, my comment on the MM or Mach converter pertained to anyone wasting there time switching from a good Mark converter to one of those. If they needed a new coverter or trans then by all mean either would be a great choice.

ok so no one bought any converter from direct transmission parts and alpine.... well im not going to be the guinea pig.

as for my trans, i talked to a mom and pop tranny place asian fella with a thick accent who told me that i would be screwed if i put in a 01-02 mustang trans because its a 4r75w. Also saying something the about the shaft being weak and not being able to stand up to the hp i'm making.

he told me to go with a crown vic police interceptor 4r70w because of the longer tailshaft that has more strenghth something about it being designed for more abuse.

i initially got out of him that he would swap the manual leaver over from my mark trans over to the 01-02 mustang gt for 50-60 bucks.
but when i got into telling him what i was planning on doing he said it wouldnt work and that i would be screwed! i tried to explain to him that it is possible to swap over the MLPS TCC selenoid and repin the harness to work with my computer and that the only part i wasn't comfortable doing was the manual leaver.

well after that he got into this telling me i shouldnt do that because it won't work.

i told him my OWC roller went and he says to me i have a drum for why not just have that replaced with the mechanical diode? i didnt get to far asking how much for that becasue the discussion of whether or not a 01-02 mustang transmission is a 4r75w kept that from coming up.

but i dont want to argue with someone who is in the business and thats there livlihood but from what i read on the TCoca.com website from jerry really contradicts from this guy was sayig.

he did tell me to go with a better coverter though said 800 bucks for some brand called Continental. (i thought he was talking about a linc continental at first) said its good for 800 horse?

ugh i am trying to do this right but i have only so much money and im getting closer and closer to just letting geno build me one.

however his number is way higher than i can afford at the moment. i figured i could make something happen with 700 bucks and a lot of reading and so far this is my only hang up.

$350 02 GT trans with 45K on the clock with converter with 3 month warranty
$50 for the lever swap
and $150 for fluid sensors and some money for a friend whos willing to help me out.
$100 for the speedcal.

feel free to tell this isnt going to work out. because i feel like ive got all my bases covered here

feel free to let me know how this can possibly not work out right

I would've loved to have been an eye witness to the conversation with the trans guy and you, I can't barely stop laughing right now and thats jsut from reading your post....

The amount of incorrect info spread through your post is astounding!

What really makes me wonder is what driveshaft you would use if you slapped the interceptor tranny in? I'm also a little confused as to why the stang tranny wouldn't work, lol....

I thoughts thats what you meant, just trying to clarify that to AbrahamLincoln or anyone else.

For real.

am I incorrect? He said something about having the interceptor driveshaft machined to work with my car?

gotcha, the 01-02 tc is the same k factor as the mark so im just going to use that one instead. My mark one probably is ok but it has 120k on it vs 50 something k on the mustang one.

i assumed the marauder one had a significantly higher stall it hought it was like 2800 or something like that.

i can afford a new marauder m1 job but not a 3500 which is like 600 bucks to your door. if i had 600 bucks just for a torque converter i wouldnt be hung up on which salvage tranny to purchase.

how can you guys say the ebay converters are crap when they are from actual transmission supply places and no-one has tried it?

we cant for sure, but key words missing from the description and about half the cost makes me wonder

oh i agree man. but seeing how most of them looks like they have warenties, and rwd tranies are stupid easy to pull, it looks like it would be worth a try. i will probally buy one in the upcoming months and try one myself.

.

You really need to understand HOW a TC does what it does, before swapping one.
Your "assumption" is setting yourself up for a major dissapointment.

If you take a 2800 stall out of a 320 HP car and put it in a 280 HP car it is NOT gonna be a 2800 stall, it's going to be significantly less.

Are you serious about paying somebody to swap the shift lever on the trans ? This is about as tough as as a tire change.

Keep in mind one thing: Jerry's article has been written a while back. There are other options equally good as the 5.4 trans.

I wish somebody would update the thesis with current data.

Custom machined driveshaft??

You are seriously over complicating this whole process. I recomend you log off the internet, drive you car to a trans shop and have them rebuild your trans before you hurt yourself.

i will get a custom drive shaft before i get one of those 4" aluminum ones i like cheaper with more strength
and it is better to have a longer tail shaft but that is the only thing better about a p71 tranny and they did put the 4r7fiveW in the cv just nut until 2003 i think

What??

The Mark does not need the extended tailshaft tranny, and it would be stupid to add it. The 4r75W was first used in the 2004 Crown Vic, Police Interceptor only.
