Dyno or Handheld

I can hit the dyno and call it a day OR get my hands on an unlocked SCT SF3 handheld programmer. With the handheld, I have adjustability and the ability to datalog. I am certain I can find an unlocked unit for less than the cost of a dyno tune. Thoughts? Then I just need to know who can set me up with a good tune to play around with. Thinking.....

You really need to do both, or pick up a pro racer package and wideband with the Xcal. Just having a tuner you are still at the mercy of the person sending you the tune. Also most shops want you to dyno to verify the air fuel ratios even on emailed tunes.

I would get the xcal2 over the 3. If you put in a wideband and get the din cable for the xcal you can data log your air/fuel as well.
Ideally if you could do both the dyno to.set it up and then data log/tune with the PRP. Either way you're going to spend the money on something.

Why? There's nothing wrong with the X3.

Personal pref. I tried the 3 and it had several issues loading a tune from the laptop and to the car, I sent it back and got a 2.
From what I understand they had an issues with the firmware on the first round of 3's working with older versions of the prp and some of the earlier cars. (If you believe everything you read in the forums) it could have just been user error or a bad unit all together.
Everything works fine now and I'm still learning how to use the software, I don't use it often enough to be proficient at it or remember half of what I learned the last time I used it.

The early X3's had some issues, but that was a long time ago. They can be updated via firmware downloads. Trust me, the X3's are just fine.

The one to get is the enhanced version with a serial number that starts with "XP".

What is so great about the ones with serial numbers starting with XP? Mines just so happens to start with those 2 letters.

AFAIK, The enhanced X3's can hold both custom and canned tunes, the others cannot.

Not very important to Mark VIII owners, as there is no such thing as canned Mark VIII tunes, but it makes the device more valuable to some, and easier to sell if you need to.
