but when you rotate your tires you go from opposite corners right? (back left to front right) I've never actually done it before:shifty:
 
thats what i thought. I really look like a dumbass with this thread..
 
Actually...it depends on your tires and wheels ...if you've got staggered wheel sizes and directional tread...you don't rotate them at all

Normal size wheels and normal tread pattern...x-cross

10 spoke wheels, Front to back. Back to front

There's a few variences

I don't rotate mine ..all directional tread and I've got 255 out back, 245 up front
 
Back to front/front to back on mine. Chrome ten-spokes with directional tread 245/50R16 Federal 98V tires. Can't do the X-Cross due to directional tires and wheels. Same on the Cobra. Directional 255/45R17 Falken's. Exploder gets the X-Cross rotation. But I don't use the full-size spare when rotating because it's on a steel wheel.

My tires rotate every time I drive the car, that's their job.:D

Kidding aside, I never have to actually rotate my tires, I'm always swapping wheels around between cars and putting crap tires/wheels on for the winter and summer storage times. When I put the good tires/wheels on I put the ones with the best tread on the front, they all seem to wear pretty evenly that way.:)
 
Non-directional, same size tires and rims I always go modified x pattern.... both fronts go straight back, and both back tires cross sides and go on the fronts.

On my 4v swap Thunderbird even with same size tires and same size rims with non-directional tread I don't rotate them at all.

I go through two sets of rear tires for every set of front tires. My alignment is within spec (drop dead perfect on a freshly calibrated Hunter aligner) but I set it at the max aggressive factory tolerances +/- 0.01 after jouncing. It took me a total of 4 hours to get it where I wanted it, I wouldn't settle for anything less then perfect.

With the TL and high stall TC and aggressive driving style I just wear through rear tires even with 255/50/17's, since I don't want to go through twice as many tires like I would by rotating them, I just replace the rears when they are at the wear bars and usually after the second set of rears and an untouched set of fronts I'm ready for all four.

Alignment is interesting. It really depends on where your average speeds are. With big tires any toe in will cause problems at high speed as the big tires fight each other. With no toe in high speeds are quite a bit less dramatic but slow speed steering can get strange.

I used to have a 502 crate motored 69 Cutlass with rather large Gatorbacks that spent a lot of it's time above 80 mph and after a lot of fooling around it was Smokey's advice that said 0 toe in for high speed, stock cars really, that finally sorted it out for me. The Cutlass was good to 140. It would go quite a bit faster but she would start to become airborne around 150. I never did the next step with the air dams etc.

My new, to me, 93 Mk VIII will probably not need such extreme mearsures. I plan to stick with stock settings. I am a lot older now. ;)

Don't doubt the capabilities of these cars though because these cars will go as fast as your Cutlass and faster. With 4.10s and a tune I buried the 140 speedo and was probably well within the 150 mph range. Imagine what it would do with a tune and stock highway gears ;) Given good conditions, I would bet 160+ no problem.
 
So whats the general vote go to? Usually I just go front to rear, rear to front. But, according to that link, are most of us doing B or C?

That overdrive is a useful thing. The Cutlas had I think a 3:28 rear and some 525 hp and would theoretically go about 180 but as I said it needed extensive mods just to keep it on the ground.

The Lincoln is much more aerodynamic and with a bit of a slam, mine has springs, I'm sure she would go as fast as the motor will haul it with very little problem. Does 100 like butter, feels like about 75.

Just got it home and I will be going over the car and fixing a few things before I take her out seriously.
