Drove a new Signature Town Car

So I was renting a midsize on vacation and they had no more left, so they said hey you want a mustang? Sure I said, they checked and came back with, sorry no mustangs, how about a Lincoln Town Car instead? Sure! I said. So I drove the car for four days. Silver with black leather interior, super smooth ride, quiet, easy to drive, big deep seats, heated. Lots of leg room, plush. This car had only 7k miles on it. The instrument panel was plain and matched the 01 LS temperature control panel exactly. You would think they could do better? The buttons, clock, etc. are all cheap plastic, no class. The speedo and tach were analog and cheap. The trunk was motorized, nice sized too. The car had that big boatish feel, just a little too long and narrow. I enjoyed the ride but when I got home in my 01 LS, I had the same ride, but much better handling, nicer styling, a more refined machine. My old LS is a better machine.
 
The Towncar doesn't change much. It's built for old people, and old people don't like no fancy gizmos and doodads. They've barely added any features through the years - they've had motorized trunks, auto headlights, and that big boatish feel since forever. Also try not to think of it as a luxury car, think of it as a nicer riding and uglier Grand Marq and you are good to go.

I always liked my '86 Towncar more than my bosses 2000 TC. It rode better and looked better, and had almost the same amount of features and power. :P

The LS may be a better machine but it costs more to own I think. Towncars are very reliable.

town cars aren't built for the driver, there built for the dude in the back seat that has all the leg room.
 
oh yeah!

My father had a town car in the 90's and a Mark. I enjoyed the town car back then, but not very reliable, the Mark was not reliable either, both had major expenses. The LS is better than both IMHO.

I traded in my 2000 Town Car for my LS which has been quite a headache. My Town Car had one problem in the nearly 4 years I had it which was the heater core. My brother has an 03 Town Car that he's has had a little over 3 years with over 120k on it & he has had 2 issues the lumbar on the drivers seat & a loose connection on the backup sensors. My Town Car drove way better than my LS does & it's not even close & I actually miss my Town Car. Don't get me wrong I love my LS, but I've had to bring it in so many times it's comical...

Ok

I've dumped more money into my LS for repairs than the combined total of all the many cars i've owned. Every year its at least $1000 or more to keep it going. Bit I still like it better than most. What turns me off on the new Lincoln was the lack of innovation or quality of parts. The 2010 had the same knobs that my 2001 has, same stuff, all modular. Nothing new after 9 years?
 
i personally like the older ones. newer ones aren't very nice looking. but if i'm buying a boat it'll be a 7 series beemer. THOSE things are amazing and great looking. you just have to get use the controls and lil details.
