Driver's Side Mirror

Is there away to remove and replace just the mirror (Glass Portion) on the driver's side.

I am aware this is and Auto Dimming-Heat mirror but hope I can just swap out a replacement. I have a good one from a salvage yard.

How do I remove the glass portion without breaking anything?
 
Since you already have your replacement mirror in front of you, you can see how it is attached to the motor plate. There are 4 towers(for lack of a better word) on the backside of the mirror glass that have 2 tabs(1 on each side of the towers) that clip onto the motor plate. The manual says to move the mirror glass to the innermost position(all the way right(for the driver's side) so that you can get a good grip on the mirror glass to be able to pop it off the motor plate, but I have see alot of the motor plates breaking off that way. I would recommend removing the entire mirror from the door. Once removed, you can remove the puddle lamp so you can see the motor plate, then gently use 2 small blade screwdrivers to wedge between the motor plate and the glass housing to serarate them. Work 1 tower at a time, starting with the closest to the puddlamp hole. The remove the wires for the heat and disconnect the auto dim connector.
 
Hey - thanks for the help. I would like to avoid breaking anything... so how do I go about removing the mirror's complete housing from the door. I hope I don't have to take the inside of the door apart to get to it.

The replacement mirror I have is in the housing as well. So I will use your instructions getting it out of the housing... but I need to get my mirror off car so I can complete everything.

If you don't feel comfortable taking the door panel off to get access to the 3 mirror mounting bolts, then try removing the mirror glass from the unmounted mirror you got from the salvage yard so you can see how hard/easy it is for you(you may find that you can do it with the mirror on the car instead of removing it). I found a motor mounting plate and laid it on the glass so check the pic's I added so you see where to place your screwdriver. Move the mirror to the innermost top right corner(allowing you to see in behind the left side of the glass), look to see the 2 "towers" on that side (see pic to see their orientation), Place a 1/4" blade screwdriver and twist to separate the mounting plate and glass. Once you have separated the mounting plate at both left side towers you will find that the glass can easily be removed. I think this method will be easier for you, I prefer the other method I listed above with the smaller screwdrivers poping each individual tab because the plastic tabs are rather fragile. Make sure to move the mirror motor to it's center position before trying to install the new glass, applying a little vasoline/grease to the outer lip of the motor plate will help the mirror glass snap on quickly putting less stress on the plastic tabs. Wearing gloves, firmly press the new glass directly inwards,pressing the center area of the glass directly over top of the mounting plate. Hope this helps..........Mike

Yes, I have a few pics of my Mark V... I'll have to post them for ya... give me some time. Can't do it from work.
