Got an interesting problem here. If the door lock changes position while the door is closed, the interior door handle will open the door only once, and then the door will not latch nor will the handle operate the mechanism UNTIL you lock and unlock the door, which can take several times pressing lock and unlock until it unjams itself.

This is obviously really irritating to have to unlock and lock the door over and over every time I finish driving. Any ideas on how I could fix this? Does the cable leading from the handle adjust somehow?

If the door latch is not completely unlocked, it won't latch when you close the door.

You can test this by holding the lock knob down a bit, and try closing the door.

I ran into this before, mine needed a new lock actuator, it wasn't unlocking fully because the rubber boot was gone, and it corroded the solenoid.

Well I figured out that if I pull on the interior door handle as gently as I can to open the door and stop immediately at the friction point where the door opens, it doesn't jam. And I mean really gently. If I pull any further than that the whole thing jams up.

Lock actuator possibly?

Bump for information for archives;

If your interior door handle stops working, get yourself a T-27 Torx bit, detach the locking mechanism, and check it for correct operation before you go and destroy a perfectly fine door lock actuator. It could be that your fix is simply bending a metal tab back into position and not destroying a 40 dollar part. Don't be stupid like me.
