Drivers door latch - latches only when unlocked?

I have an issue with the drivers door latch - it only catches when you shut the door and the door is unlocked.

Now when you lock the door and it's latched, it stays latched, but if you try to shut it and the door is locked it won't latch.

So uh... what the heck is going on?

i have no idea, my guess would be the latch is bad, something is hung up inside, spray inside with pb blaster and slam the snot out of it a few times, if same results chunk a latch at it

hey Chicken...is there not a small rod link with clips that un lock the door while pulling the handle that may be disconnected or broken??

id still say latch since it will latch when unlocked, if it was like max said it would never latch
