I've been in the automotive publishing industry for the past 12 years, and am currently writing an article for a magazine about oil technology. It is absolutely fascinating how oil manufacturers create today's oils. I'm no oil expert, but it is amazing to listen to someone who is talk about it.

This guy is clearly an expert, and he actually does the testing of something that is tremendously difficult for a layman to test.
Note that only one oil additive is recommended; oil formulations are balanced with the right additives from the factory, so adding additives can do more harm than good. There are some high ZDDP, etc. oils out there, if that's what you're looking for.
As a general rule, you can't go wrong with the first 10-20 oils on this list.
