Hello everyone. I have been a long time viewer but today finally made the step to be a member. Anyways pictures to follow of my ls later this week. My question is I have a 2000 ls and yestarday i had the kenwood ddx7017 installed w/ nav. It sticks out about an inch. I wanted it to look more a factory unit, flush. So anybody out there with a unit that sits flush?
My other question is that it shuts off as soon as i shut the car off. My old one stayed on till i opened the door. My windows still role down my the unit shuts off. Couldn't they have wired it in with that?
Well any response would be great. Thanx

Yeah you need to check the install, it should be flush just like factory. I have the Eclipse and it looks like it belongs there. Also, they could've hooked it up so it stays on until the door is open.

Sorry im just to lazy to check for myself.

Did you do the install yourself? If so did u have to cut anything extra out? They told me the air vents were in the way! I have to go back for the steering wheel control harness. So I want them to fix it up right when they put that in.

Actually I didn't tackle this install however I was in the shop watching every move. It took less than 2hrs and there was absolutely nothing to cut other than the inside of the bezel which ordered from Team Ford.

sweet thanks. And your radio turns off when you open the door?

Well I finally got the steering wheel radio controller in to work with the nw HU. Little delay in signal but never the less it works.
They also fixed my headunit so it doesn't stickout as far. The trim doesn't look the greatest, just not like the factory radio trim. The factory one had a nice little radius on the edge this one doesn't. You can also see were it was cut out.
They also tried to hook up the radio to the delay acc. No luck they said it just wasn't working. So they couldn't fix that. But I am on the look out for a better surround for the HU.
Another thing i noticed after they made it flush there is a gap between the wooded trim for the heated seat buttons/ashtray and the temperture control box. I will have to bring it back in an see about that. You can hardly see it but now that i know its there i will always see it.

The delay is built into the stock radio.

The delay is built into the stock radio. Not correct because when i shut the vehicle off the the windows still go down with the key out of the ignition. till i open the door.

you cant really do much about the gap you noticed... ive noticed alot of the pre 03 LS's have this gap between the heated seats and climate control... i tried fixing this by loosening the bolts behind the center vents that hold the radio and the bolts that hold the message center and sorta sagged everything down, if that made any sense... but it caused a problem later on with the message center because the tab in the back of it wasnt in the hole its supposed to be in and the message center would flicker... so ur better off keepin the gap

If they used the factory wiring (switched ON and power) it should retain the delay functionality.

But is it possiable to have a headunit that draws to much current for this to work? They said because it was a kenwood and blah blah blah. I took it back and they said it would stay on for a couple seconds and that was it. Its almost like a small battery back up and when thats used up thats it.

I'm not sure what you're saying there...or what they're telling you. I have (had) the Pioneer AVIC-Z1 unit in my Aviator. It's hdd driven. I used the factory power supplies (there's 2) with the correct harness. One is constantly powered, the other is the one that is controlled my the module that gives you the delay until you open the doors. As long as you use those and hook them up to your unit like they're supposed to, it will work like the factory. Your aftermarket unit should have two power supplies. One constant, one switched. Just make sure they are hooked up to the factory wires that way. I'm guessing the installer didn't realize what he was working with. No surprise there...

By the way, I sold the Aviator last weekend and took the Pioneer unit out. We're going to install it this weekend in the LS. I can promise you it will work like the factory unit in this regard.
