Drivers door handle a little floppy on one side. No surprises there then!
Lets take it off and have a look.

You should be able to see the tab that has broken off and where its come from.

I have got another surround but it is not painted the right colour yet and I want to see if I can repair it!

So, a jig made up to hold the tab in place while the epoxy glue holds

24 hours later and a metal tab epoxied to the weak area to hopefully give it a fighting chance!

I'll put it back in a day or two when its fully set and see what happens.

Oh the fun times of changing the door handle.

I did mine last week. Was trying to be as careful as possible not to break anything so it took me 30 min. Now I would do it in 10.

Still no one told me that to remove the door handle rod you need to pop it off. Prying it off with a long screw driver is not the method. There is a small yellow tab that hold it in place, once you remove that it comes out easy.

Either way. Big FU to the door handle design.

good luck
looks like the other tab is cracked too

Luckily it is not. Just a casting mark. Checked it out carefully! Phew.

Anyway, if the drivers side was bad, the passenger side may be going that way, so that side comes off too!!

Have a look at this photo

This is what really p***es me off. Somebody has been in here before and rather than go and get some one way clips (as I call them) to go on the end of the pins - what do they do? Bend them over and cause even more stress to the metal tabs that are a weak spot anyway. Absolutely bleeding unbelievable. I don't know what words you have got for these people in the states (jerks?), but I know what I would do to them!!!

Anyway, rant nearly over, so I repeated the reinforcement that i did on the other side.

Luckily there was no sign of stress so I may have caught it in time before it fractured.

I liberally oiled the pivot pins on the drivers side before I installed it and the difference is unbelievable. Feels so smooth and free. No wonder these things break - slightest bit of corossion and things start to bend. Theres not much "slack" in the deign to cope with any extra loading.

I really dont want to be replacing these in future. The UK don't have many working Mark 8's never mind any in junkyards!!

Hi Sapperfire.
Thanks for the reply. I'm certainly going to need parts for this car from the US!!

Why the move to the UK?
I want to try the US!!

You are very welcome to visit us if you are ever in the UK. As far as living with us, my Wife may have a say in that one!!
