I'm not one bit inclined toward working on my car as you all are and know nothing about engines. starting sometime last week, i've noticed that when i'm accelerating, doesn't matter if its highway speed or from a red light, the engine would jerk. as if the gas supply was being cut to the engine. like a hicc-up. its not happening every time either.

i read on here about miss fires and oil in spark plugs and a lot of v8's. just wondering if the v6 can have the same problems. i got the extended warranty on the car. 50 bucks to bring it back to carmax, 75 if i take it to a dealer.

i thought it could be from cheap gas so i treated my last tank with seafoam but the problem is still there. I will be taking it in but wouldn't mind some suggestions as to what it could be. I don't want to take it in and have them say they have no idea because they can't replicate the problem.

I have 1 2000 Ls with the V6. Had the same jerking motion, thought it was the coils, I hooked it up to the computer to read codes and came back as the MAF having dirt in the connection. That was a new one to me but I cleaned it up and the car runs fine again. But if you try this be careful and only use compressed air NO liquids at all.

Thanks for the replies. I have no clue what a MAF is. if its dirt in their there, i doubt the extended warranty will cover it.

Thanks though. I'll look this up for when i take it in.

Even with no prior experience, it would be worthwhile to do little five minute jobs. If, in fact, the problem is with the electrical connection, the repair consists of un-plugging the wire ends and---I'll depart from the advice above---spraying electronic cleaner in the connection. Won't take five minutes unless you include the trip to the store for the can of cleaner!!:D

the only problem my V6 had was not enough power (my V8 still has this problem)

cammefire iwouldn't spray any cleaners in there at all. If any liquids get in there and do not dry up they will surely do more harm than good. Afterall I have already done this application and I am sure you have not. I got the results I was looking for. But NO liquids to clean that connection. Unless Cammefire is gonna pay for a new MAF for you if it goes bad. Mass Air Flow Sensor (MAF)

Electrical contact cleaner will clean it fine. I used to clean the one in my 87 LSC with it and had no issues.

Electronics cleaner, I like the CRC stuff, is designed for this kind of thing and I'd use it without hesitation though be careful around paint for sure. The question to ask is how did it get in there if the system has never been opened? Thats supposed to be a weather tight connection.

Where exactly is the MAF connector located at? Was thinking maybe I should do this too, just in case.

the tiny little thing that you gotta pull hard to get completely out to put in an intake tube :P

update;

so on friday morning, pulling out of my complex the car started haveing the engine hesitation again. like the gas was being cut off to it. i said screw it and went right to the dealer. they called this morning to say the maf is bad. they found the engine to be getting unregulated air. they also found one of the ignition coils full of oil and the ignition wires corroded and split. i'm going to ask if they checked the other coils since they will already have the car.

my price for entire job, $50 dollars and extended warranty picks up the rest. i'm so glad i bought that warranty. at signing i was like...eh is an extra $$$$. anyone know about how much it costs to fix a coil and gaskets etc? i'd like to know what i've saved vs. what i spent on the extended warranty. its only really worth the extra money at signing if its used.

whatever, i have always used non cholirated brake cleaner on my 98 contour and 02 LS. no probs

I paid 498 for an oil pan gasket, i was quoted 1200 to replace all 6 coils. coils are almost 75 a piece at dealer. I will post a pic of my reciept from gasket replacement
