I was just wondering if its just my car or my area, but not only have i never recieved a traffic alert but the station RDS text never works correctly, mostly just jibberish. Has anyone's radio had this function work correctly or ever recieved any sort of traffic message? Seems like a good concept if it were to work.

Well my RDS works but i never did get a traffic message. But i live in a "Farming Community" so , that could be the reason.
I've heard from other LS owners who've been surprised by the RDS function when it stopped their CDs to give them traffic alerts. I listen to terrestrial radio very infrequently (IMHO, it's a craptasic spectacular of suckitude, by and large), but I do recall the RDS info from local stations being displayed correctly on the radios in both my current and previous LSes. I've never had the RDS interrupt anything, but that's probably because that's an unused feature around these parts--RDS is highly dependent upon how the stations implement it.

Sometimes the display will get stuck or skip some text... I'm guessing the station signal has to be pretty strong to get alll the text accurately.
The RDS has very limited support in the US. It is mainly a European thing. With the advent of "HD" radio more and more stations are starting to support the format. I noticed here in San Diego more radio stations are providing RDS info. I have never seen a traffic interrupt, though. I would imagine only the bigger metropolis' like LA or NY would have that feature up and running. But like Sooner said, I rarely listen to the local advertisement stations that are peppered with music.

when i lived in NYC the traffic worked all the time especially when there was maintanance on the lincoln or holland tunnels the the tunnels will be completely closed the traffic comes up and tells me the date and time of the scheduled construction work. or when there is traffic closures due to the president visiting the U.N the traffic comes up telling me what streets will be closed and at what times.
