I've notice this happen maybe four times in the last 8 months. I'll leave work(or a store, etc.), and within a half mile, I will get a repetitive series of five long chimes. Seatbelt is fastened, PATS light isn't doing anything, no message center warning, no SRS light, nothing. Everything appears normal except for that damn five chime. It quits after a bit, but cars don't just chime for no reason.

Any ideas?

Is it a series of five chimes, pause, and repeat for five times?
That's the warning that the SRS bulb is out, and an SRS fault has been detected. Check to see if your SRS bulb comes on the next time you start the car. If it doesn't, then the bulb is out. The fact that you get the chimes randomly while driving, suggests that your clockspring is failing.

Thanks, joe. My cruise randomly disengages sporadically, so I was assuming the clock spring was starting to fail. Just never have read about the "five long chimes, pause, repeat five chimes" symptom before.
