Difference in trannys...5R55S

Kumba, I really thought for the 5r55N that 2nd was 1st+overdrive band, and 3rd requires a band, so there's a band release and a band apply for 2-3. 2-3 in my '02 is certainly a squishier shift than all the others.
Guess I'll have to re-read the manual! :D

Yeah, the 2-3 shift is a synchronous shift. I can tell that just from feeling how it engages in the car. Maybe some programming could be done to make it better.

Also, I do not know what the order is on the other shifts or how they are generated in the trans. The video I linked to was not a 5r55-anything. It was just a random 5-speed trans video to demonstrate how gears are obtained inside an automatic transmission and what a synchronous shift is.

You would need to consult with someone who is intimately familiar with, or has a detailed diagnostic manual, to get any real specifications on what is going on. I can understand the theory behind which the tranny operates, but haven't a clue on the actual details. Kind of like saying you know how an internal combustion engine operates, but you don't know exactly how a 4.6 works versus a 302w. Same kind of thing.
