Did Mods Now Running Terrible

i have 4 coils going bad, you would think it would pop a CEL but doesnt, our scanners dont show it either, but at the shop on the real deal rig it showed it. so yeah about $500 for coils and plugs.......

Issue is they are marginal, meaning sometimes it's missing but most of the time it is performing as intended so no CEL. Anyways, make sure you don't need valve cover gaskets either while you're at it.

yeah i understand that but still kinda feel like it should throw a code for them, this thing was sputtering BAD under even normal throttle, most people would have freaked out. its weird that it started up at the same time i did the exhaust, crazy coincidence. yeah im gonna go ahead and do valve cover gaskets while im messing with it ;-) i appreciate the input everyone!

8 coils, $359.99

Ordered me a set from this guy, should be here sometime soon.

EDIT: Just got them delivered. All brand new in the original Ford/Motorcraft plastic bags sealed. Guy also tossed in two airfresheners (lol) and a tube of dielectric grease.

oh wow, someone works for Ford and steals parts HAHA.. great price though, thanks for the link buddy!!

No prob, hope it saves you some cash and works out for ya. On a side note I popped mine in today...and the write up for replacing them is something to read and follow.
And yes make sure you have a stubby 7mm socket (and hopefully small hands) because that driver side back cover nut is a PITA.

got a link to the write up? im a big dude so im not gonna be able to get my hands in there probably but i have a 5'4 110lb wife that can ;-) lol

Haha, yep I bookmarked them when I found them!

Here's the two most helpful threads I found:

I'm not huge but I do have fairly large hands. Passenger side is a breeze if you've ever turned a wrench ;)

I don't know why people complain about pulling the driver side coils, I replaced my plugs and had no issues. 6 ft 4, huge hands. All screws holding the covers were put back in too.

Oh don't get me wrong, it's not like it's impossible or somethig you'd pull your hair out over...but it definitely isn't just sitting out there where you can slap a wrench on it and twist away.

thanks alot Zr0.. how long did it take you guys to do them apprx. just wondering so i can plan when to do them and have adequate time. cant take too long i wouldnt imagine.

I did mine in a couple of hours with a bit of "screw-off" time.

Yeah no prob (and remember I'm new here so always double check anything I say  )
It took me about 3 hours...course I was taking my time since I managed to lock myself out of my house in the middle of it :Bang

haha i locked myself out of the house (had a knob that would turn inside if locked) in my boxer briefs AND IT WAS SNOWING.. walked 5ft to throw a bag of trash in the big can on back porch and wind sucked door shut and locked me out in 20* and basically naked HAHA... im prob gonna do the coils and plugs, head gaskets, two new fans (stock one SUCKS), and a belt this sunday, should be tons of fun...

HA!!!!! Supposed to be about 80º today and close to 90º by Saturday!!

Why the head gaskets?

head gaskets because its 117,xxx miles and im gonna be right at em in doing the rest of the junk. kinda same with belt, its making just a little bit of noise sometimes and im gonna just go ahead and replace it while im messing with all the rest. just have a car "tune up" day. also oil change.

Nobody changes headgaskets as a preventative thing, especially on an engine that virtually never has a headgasket problem. If you really are doing this, then you might as well change the timing chains and tensioners too. You have to take the chains off to get the heads off. Of course, if you're doing that I would change the valve cover gaskets too, I can't see reusing those.
How about some pictures of your valves and piston heads when you go this, just curious about what they'll look like after 117K miles. You have to take the intake manifold off to remove the heads. You really should replace the manifold gaskets when you do.

no no no VALVE COVER GASKETS, i dont know how we got on HEAD GASKETS, was gonna do valve cover gaskets!! NOT head gaskets.. sorry for the confusion, idk how it got mixed up, i may have just brain farted it all. LOL.... slaps forehead....

Well, that make a lot more sense...
