I understand that every car will have it's common problems. This one has the climate control and coils. Those I learned about after buying the car and expected that to happen. That's what warranties are for. But on top of that I've had tranny solenoid, tranny leak, dead battery (tested OK), bad alternator, dead battery (tested OK), engine crank but won't start, window motor troubles, sub cuts out sometimes, etc etc.

Is everyone else dealing with similar issues and I'm just expecting too much from a $40,000 flag ship automobile? I love the car when it's working right! I love the style, the power, the fact that there's not one every 4th car on the road. but when is enough 'enough'? I'm tempted to return to the dealship that I bought it from (18 months ago) and try to work out a trade to a different LS-8. But if I'm just going to run into the same dink and dunk problems with a different LS-8 it might be time to look elsewhere. Germany probably....

Well on the bright side people have had more problems than you have. I personally have had a few coils gone, battery finally went after 8 years, solenoid, half shafts, transmission valve body, and I'm not sure what else off the top of my head. Every car comes with its problems. A lot of expensive cars have had their problems, not just the LS. Look at the BMW 8 series for instance. Remember German parts are expensive.

yeah, you're right there. German cars are expensive to fix. However, my wife has had a 3 series for 3 years now. It's been in the shop 3 times. And two of those stops were for oil changes only. The other time it needed brakes and they also found a cracked suspension component which was covered under warranty.

I'm just getting fed up with the LS. Plus my warranty is coming to an end soon and that's when things will start to get expensive. My bill will go from $150 per stop to about $400 per stop in a real hurry. I want to like the car. I really do. that's why I want to know if I'm in the minority or not.

The dealership I bought my car from has an '06 LS-8 with 14,xxx miles on the lot right now. They're asking $17xxx. That's sounds great on paper, but if I'm just buying another lemon of a car then what's the point?

Depending on the year of your car, by 2006 I'm sure they had a lot of the kinks worked out.

I bought my 04 20 months ago with 22k on the clock.
It now has 60k.
In that time I've replaced 1 coil, and a rear window regulator.
The heater/ac now blows heat when set to 90 and cold when set to 60 with no temperature blending in between.
I suspect it's the DCCV dual climate control valve ($120.00 from Rock Auto) which I will be changing out soon.
That's hardly anything.
I'd get the 06.

yep, if I could get that sort of reliablilty that you've gotten 04sctls I'd take that deal!

I think once the weather calms down a little bit here I'll stop in at the dealership and see what I can do. That '06 looks pretty nice in pictures!!

so this dccv control valve would be the problem if my cars heater takes 2 years to work even when its fully warmed up??

dont mean to hijack your thread

i have a 2000 i bought outright 2 years ago and have had no engine or tranny issues but have had some suspension issues, i also have a o4 i bought in june with 22k and have had no major issues as well. i guess ive been lucky but i love the car and i love working on it. its all about the love and on the bright sid eyou cant die with your money buried with you so u may as well spend it on repairs

Well so far I've replaced my vcg's and the torque converter. The first owner of the car replaced the window motors under warranty. Since I've owned the car, it's eaten 3 batteries and still continues to drain them and nobody can tell me what's wrong with it. I just paid the car off and I now need to replace the tranny solenoid, and I have a clunking noise coming from the rear suspension when I go over bumps.

LS Problems

I got my 2000 LS four years ago this coming march with 97k on it, one owner miles and majority of them being highway. In the time that i have had the car, I have replaced all 8 coil packs and the plugs(when one goes bad just replace them all. If you are mechanically inclined do it yourself and save alot!!) Front sway arm bushings went bad, new cataylic converters, new O2 sensor, fuel pump, battery, alternator (ebay $50) Still rollin now with roughly 203k! Car still looks and runs like new! Ball joints are going bad and have to replace them soon, probably next spring. Im going to drive this thing till the wheels fall off!! I get a lot of compliments on the car and take really good care of it.
Btw, i have a set of chrome 17" factory LS wheels for sale, chrome is flaking pretty bad on a couple of them. I need to get rid of them asap, make me an offer. Also i have a used alternator for a V6 LS, accidently bought on ebay with only 49k on it, $60. OEM is around $330. If interested in any of the above, i can send pics of them. Email me at mldeanda@hotmail.com

Whats weird is that you have a 2nd Gen LS and all those problems are very common for the 1st Gen's.

I just sent an email to the salseman that I bought the car from. I had some questions on the cars on the website (like: is the car still there?). Hopefully he'll get back to me today and I can stop in.

possibly or it may be the control panel.
I changed out mine for one I got on Ebay but
that wasn't it for my problem.

Search DCCV
it's not a hard part to replace but you have
to bleed the air out of the coolant system after
as it needs to be drained to do the change.

Luttersj, wasn't there a special title on this particular LS you bought? If so, I wouldn't judge all LS's by the way your's has been acting. Trade up and get the 06.

yeah, my car is a part of the Ford Buyback program. however, the car was bought back for transmission problems. Ford rebuilt the tranny and put it back into the dealer system and that's when I bought it. Since I've had it, they've replaced one solenoid and repaired one leak on the tranny. But there's been a slew of other problems. Mostly electrical which are the worst. Murphy's law states that electrical problems will not surface while at the repair shop. so the multiple dead batteries, bad alternator (surely caused by the multiple dead batteries), sub cutting out, window regulators, dash lights not coming on, etc will require many trips to the shop to get sorted.

So yeah, you're right, I knew going in that the car wasn't perfect. But now that I've gotten the bugs worked out of the tranny repair I think that part is solid. it's all of the other non-buyback related problems that have me worried. And my warranty runs out in 6000 miles.

There's an '02 BMW 745 on the lot for under $20k.....

I've always liked the 7 series.

You know what you really need though. Some new quartz countertops :D

I've always liked the 7 series, too! Unfortunately, I think it's too rich for my blood.

Just like quartz countertops! :Bang :D
