Has anyone deleted the cats up by the manifolds? I've seen that the one is attached. Can it be hacksawed off? I was contemplating having these manifolds ported out as an alternative to kooks. I spoke to someone who does a good job on the sohc manifolds and said it's possible but that cat is in the way.

I would never spend the money to port the stock manifolds. Find a set of used 03/04 Cobra manifolds. They have much larger ports and will bolt right on. That will also take care of your stock cat-attach problem. Used sets go for $50 to $100 max. They are good for up to 600HP, no joke. They flow really well. You will need a couple Flaming River steering shaft parts to clear the new exhaust knuckle, but its easy. From there head off to the exhaust shop to finish it up!

All you need to do is move the steering shaft? Can you tell me what's involved in this?

Well I moved my shaft. Jeremi found an easier way, all you need is a smaller "rag joint". Actually all you need is a Flaming River u-joint and a section of shaft.

Are there any pics or anything of what Jeremi did? A quick search brought up nothing, but it doesn't help that I don't know who Jeremi is.

Do the 03-04 cobra manifolds need to be port matched or do they really line up well. Everyone always says how great it is to remove the cats for more power(maybe 8-10 hp?) Then you here don't bother it doesn't help. Is this a case of sour grapes or do they not matter. Why bother getting high flow cats if no cats doesn't matter? I need some truth from both sides here. I'm planning cobra manifolds and some type(genos:D )of dual exhaust.

They dont have to be ported because they are LARGER ports! Basically the porting work is done. My cats are gone. Yes they can be restrictive. High flows are fine is you wish to have cats or have to due to local emission stuff. I dont. So come spring/summer I am heading over to across the state to have a proper exhaust system put on.

Ok, so the coupling is available from Summit, a question though, is it collapsible like the original? (for safety)

Whats a 3/4 DD shaft? What does DD mean?

Are these the manifold type?

Are they really that cheap?  Thats amazing!! Must get some when i do the exhaust!

Would you just use the original locking bolts?

What gaskets would you use? original types or specific Cobra ones?

Those aren't the right manifolds. Those are from an SOHC we have DOHC motors.

I thought that, but read just below them - says fits following vehicles: GT, Cobra, Mach 1

Mind you, they are cheap re-mans, so, even though they MIGHT fit both SOHC and DOHC, they may not be as good as Cobra specific manifolds or OE?

Somethings bound to be up. Usually, if something seems too good to be true, it usually is! Lol.

Emissions are getting changed this year for obd1 - 95 and older cars. So I'm planning on getting mine removed. As far as the manifolds go, if they are bigger there will be a step and some air disturbance, nothing bad though. I guess I'd just leave them alone. Anyone dyno cats vs no cats for these engines?

THe procedure is different for using mustang OEM manifolds vs kooks headers. Not only do you need to change the u-joint, but also you need to extend the steering rack shaft 7" with a coupler and a rod, then install the u-joint and connect it to the shortened steering wheel shaft.
