Degas bottle

I am researching alternatives to purchasing a new plastic degas bottle---VERY ridiculously costing $120 or so with a discount and the structural equivalent of a half-gallon plastic milk jug---and have come up with an aluminum race-car expansion tank. It'll take adapting -8 bungs on the tank to the hoses on the car, but otherwise seems to be quite do-able. But here's the question---it's almost a foot long and there would need to be space BELOW the factory location in the car for the extra 4-6 inches. Can anyone say for sure that the factory opening is DEEP enough (a foot or so) to accept this replacement?

The total cost should be very close to $50.00

I can't say for sure that it isn't deep enough, but I don't recall there being that much space under it.

Do be warned that the tube that connects to the top of the degas bottle runs to a tube inside the bottle that goes part way to the bottle. This is needed to keep air at the top of the bottle from being sucked back into the cooling system at the engine.

Also note that the factory degas cap is the pressure regulator for the cooling system.

no room the brake master cylinder is right there the space provided gives only a inch or two for the bottom.

So in theory a person could fabricate a container out of aluminum the same size and shape as the factory bottle and have a threaded fitting to accept any 16psi cap, a separated container inside with a down tube similar to the stock set up, and a few barbed hose outlets and have a bullet proof degas bottle??.....hmmmmm

The item I've had in mind is about 3" diameter and uses a radiator cap. One fitting is on the bottom. Maybe I'll just get one and shorten it as necessary to make it fit. As an alternative, I have an expansion/fill tank from a Stingray 'vette. It's short enough, but may be too big around to fit in the available space. And it'll be more difficult to modify. I don't want to go to the work of making one from scratch, but such a thing could be made from aluminum sheet and tigged together. Such things as billet aluminum radiator necks are readily available. And I gotta do something!
