I picked up my car from the dealer and they told me they flashed the PCM. Is there anyway of finding what they flashed it to? What improvements come with the upgrade? Did it change my PCM code?

They are supposed to write the new code somewhere where mechanics know that the car has been flashed, but many do not do this and rely on reading the PCM to know. I had my car for about 8 months before the first re flash. I went from code UNG0 to UPS1. What the flash did on my car was give a little more pep on acceleration and improved the shifting in both Auto and SST modes.

If you know the code before and after I can give you a list of things that changed.

I would like to know the "official" difference in UNG0 and UPS1, if you have them.:) Also do you know if there is a newer better flash than UPS1 ?

In my SCT software I can print the differences between codes. I cannot however tell which is a newer code. PM me your email address and I will email you the differences between UNG0 and UPS1.

I think the dealer usually does it free when your car is in for service. Most of the time they don't even tell you. If you use an XCal2 etc. always make sure you flash it back to stock before going to the dealer. Not only for warranty reasons, but if they overwrite the SCT file, you will not be able to flash it back to stock.

I received my Xcal2 a couple of days after the flash of my PCM. Can I still load the tunes or will changes need to be made before i use the Xcal2?
Where would the dealer put the new code?

Do not try to load the tunes on your SCT until you check with your tuner. If the main flash has changed to a new set up, the tunes constructed for the PCM code you told your tuner, will not work and could possible cause you problems. Again, Check with your tuner first. The tuner will need the new flash code to make an informed opinion.

I can't get any info from the dealer. They are telling me they have no way of getting the info. Can someone tell me what the dealer has to do to get me this info? Any Ford/Lincoln employees here? I am trying to have the tech call me. I have a $400 paper weight on my hands. This BS is driving me crazy!!

If your dealer reflashed the car to an updated code they know. If all they did was check the code then it is the same. They are required by Ford and Lincoln to record the new code ID so future mechanics know that the car is reflashed. I think the Official policy is to write the new code on a sticker on the driver's door jam. But my dealer just gave me the code ID. BTW the code ID may be a long series of letters and numbers which your tuner can translate into the 4 digit code used ti ID the code. For instance in my case the dealer flashed 4W4A-12A650-BUB to the PCM that = PCM code UPS1. The ID on the PCM from the factory was UNG0.

Where can I find the original PCM code that the car had?
It is on the PCM. You have to get upside down under the dash on the Passenger side to read it. How did you order an Xcal2 without the PCM code? The dealer you bought it from needs the PCM code to give you the correct tunes. BTW the original Code is of no use if the dealer has reflashed the PCM.

If you already have the Xcal you can read the cars current flash (read strategy option in the Xcal menu). If it does not match the flash that your tunes are for (the tuner probably gave you tunes for the code on your PCM sticker), contact your SCT dealer. Give your dealer the new flash code and they can send you the tunes needed for it.

When I ordered it from Torrie (Fastpartsnetwork), I had to input the VIN on the website, not the PCM code.
I know the original is of no use, but I downloaded the spreadsheet from Ford that shows all the PCM codes and upgrade codes.

I got the original wrong. It was UGN0 orO and the current is UPS1. Can you try again to see what the differences are? I would appreciate it. Sorry for the mix up.:Bang

I looked on the XCAL and the read strategy=JIANCSB. My original PCM code on is PHP7. Does this mean anything?

According to the strategy code you provided (JIANCSB), your NEW PCM code is HJC1. There is some major differences between PHP7 verses HJC1. If you PM me your email address I will email you the print out. You will need to send your XC2 back to Torrie and have him redo the tunes.

I know I already PM'd you about the differences between UGN0 & UPS1, but I figured I would also post the differences here for everyone else to see.

UGN0 Verses UPS1:

Equizzer Software Version
UGN0 - 1 UPS1 - 2
28.000 182.000

IPC Software Version
UGN0 - 1 UPS1 - 2
28.000 182.000

Tire Revs Per Mile
UGN0 - 1 UPS1 - 2
794.000 786.000

The only important change in this instance is the Tire Revs Per Mile. They have been lowered. This was likely done for a correction to the speedo etc. or a tire size change.

I had the same problem recently. They reflashed my '03 and now the strategy reads JIANCSB. My code was a PHP8. Now none of my tunes will work.

This is pretty common. Make sure you flash you car back to stock before going to the dealer for ANY service. If you don't, you will need to send your XC2 back to SCT to be cleared, and it is not free.
