I unfortunately fell victim to a failed dccv, the car was fine in the morning but later on it was blowing fire. It seems this is a common part to fail although i think i had another issue that contributed. On the upper radiator hose there is the plastic "t" built in which runs a hose down to the dccv. This plastic piece developed a pin size crack/hole which would dribble coolant out the top and down on top of the dccv and its wiring, one of the solenoids shorted. I've read that others have had this plastic insert develop a leak. Anyway, i have a new upper hose and dccv on its way. I plan on doing the repair this weekend, thought maybe i'd document the repair for a "how-to" write up. I dont think there is one for this part and its bound to happen to most LS's as they age. Dealers want $1000+ for this repair when it can be done in your driveway for around $150. Basic hand tools are all thats needed and some pretty basic skills. Give me some feedback regarding whether i should document the repair to post on here.

do it.... take lots of pics if you can with step by step instructions and specific tools needed. That if some future noob wants to do it and no skills what so ever besides reading, they will be able to do this repair based off you write up

+1 on what Sully said...be specific too about tools and steps

I did a 2001 V6

Yes I did it and did a write up with pictures on the insides of a DCCV. Yes my plastic pipe cracked too! Easy job on an 01V6, do not disconnect the quick connect fittings, just remove the hose clamps and pull off the DCCV, saves some time and $$. Put in new worm drive clamps to replace the Ford clamps. You will need some vice-grips or other tool to remove the Ford clamps. Other than than it's pretty easy stuff, loosen up the stuff attached to the fan blade housing and move it aside so you can get down in there to work. The front hose can be gotten too from underneath the front near the radiator. :D
