So I just got my transmission totally rebuilt which included new gears gaskets solenoid pack and the works. Now after much anticipation, the car works but the dash reports the incorrect gear when it is put into neutral. Neutral shows up as Drive, however neutral does engage. All other gears show up correctly. Any idea what's going on here? Thanks!

Bring it back, tell em to do it Fn right or you're calling the local TV news station.
Obviously the selector or gear indexer is off by one notch.

I wouldn't try anything other then returning it and telling them you'll wait for it while they fix it immediately.

Well the car is still there at the shop, didn't pick it up yet. The mechanic noted this issue while road testing it. He said he wants to replace the neutral safety switch. Can it be adjusted or does the whole switch have to be replaced? Btw, all gears engage in the correct sequence on the selector, just neutral is showing up as drive on the dash. Every other gear shows up correctly, at least according to the mech.

Well I'm thinking of leaving the switch as is. I'm sure it'll be another $100 on top the already pricey tranny overhaul. Any effects if I were to leave it like this?

You paid for a completely rebuilt transmission, correct? Why would you accept anything less than a completely rebuilt transmission with everything working properly?

When you paid for the transmission did the mechanic say "unless you pay an extra $100, the switch is going to be incorrect"?

I wouldn't. It's probably not good to confuse the PCM over what gear you have selected. It's probably just that they didn't adjust it correctly.

Transmission range indicator does not correspond to the gear position display on instrument cluster

Where'd you get a hold of that info? Seems like a pretty good piece of material to have.
