Dash Question

I am in the process of pulling my dash to reconnect the vacuum hose for the dash vents and I have a question. Will I need to take out the steering colum, or can I just drop it down? I am assuming I will be able to slide the dash out far enough to be able to reconnect the hose, I hope. Is the actuator at about the vent level, center of the dash to the rear?
If anyone has a pic of where it is located, please post it.

I kninda doubt that you are going to get to that vacuum acutator without pulling the dash completely out. To just lower the column, you only have 1 more bolt and you can get it completely out of the way. Then you can just completely remove the dash and be able to get to things better. I have r&r one by myself in about 8 hours. It's not really that bad. I'd rather r&r a dash than have to r&r valve covers

if all you need to do is slide the dash out a little to get behind it you dont have to touch the column at all, it has movement in it because its sleeved, kind of like a driveshaft has some slop to move, so does the column, on the gen 2's when i do the blend door repair i never unbolt anything on the column i dont have to, you can get about 8 inches of space behind the dash before you need to unbolt the column so you can leave it alone!

I got fat hands and a gut in the way, so I had to pull the whole dash

I tired your method when I did my blend door... and all I know is there is NO reason to touh the column....
