So i bought my HID kit for my car about a year ago and they worked good until now... well its not so much of a problem as it is kind of annoying.. one of the lights is slightly changing color. instead of the icey blue its now more of a aqua blue. this is just a slight change and it really dont bother me but i wanna know what can cause this? cheap lights or wat?

I noticed on my hid's the bulb has a stinger runnin down the side of it which dictates the color inside the housings, I would bet this has faded or worn out over time.

blah.. they're under warranty but i dont really care that it went slgithy differ color... i could just buy new replacements for 30 bucks anyway... as long as they are in the same area in regards to color i dont care.. now if it went white then i might have a problem .. :D

What you're describing is called color-shifting. Cheaper bulbs do it a lot quicker than higher quality OEM bulbs. Once the bulb has color-shifted, your output (lumens) have just dropped - even more dramatically on the cheaper egay bulbs. But, I'm assuming since you said the original color was "icey blue", that you bought 8000K, or higher, bulbs. So, I'm guessing you're not as concerned with output/performance as you are with color? :D

I'm not sure what you mean by "stinger", but the gas and metal salts, sealed inside the glass bubble in the center of the tube, are what determine the color of an HID bulb.

they light up the street enough.. i liek it. its not like i have to see EVERY little detail.. theyre bright enough for me. and for the person who said why am i postin on here if i dont care.. i just wanna know why simple as that and i might look for a new HID kit this summer and use the ballasts for the fogs n buy lights for there

o btw they werent "cheap" they still ran me 150 dollars
LOL. That 150 probably included ballasts as well; not just bulbs. To quote you:
blah.. they're under warranty but i dont really care that it went slgithy differ color... i could just buy new replacements for 30 bucks anyway...
But like you said though, if they're bright enough for you, then that's all that matters right? :)

why u hatin? that whole thing was 150 so what.. i didnt mean that any other way. and yes they are bright enough.. the whole point of this thread is why they changed color man quit reading me wrong!

First off, I'm not "hatin". Secondly, I explained to you why the color changed. Don't get all pissy, you get what you pay for; $150 for an HID setup is cheap. Period.

yeah I agree, and Im also saying since they are cheap HID's I wouldnt expect them to run PERFECTLY do to china tolerances...

im not getting pissy! omg i just asked a question and i got it... along with people scrutinizing me for buying the lights. im not complaining, arguin or anything like that i know theyre cheap and thats why i made sure i looked for their warrantys.. i got what i paid for and 10% change in color isnt going to make me regret that. and 150 dollars might not be alot for you guys but in my situation right now its a good amount thats why i went the cheap way.. and trust me i could of gone even lower (i found a kit for $70) but i didnt.

so to make this clear.

i know theyre "cheap"
i didnt expect them to be perfect forever
the point of this thread was to ask a question not complain about my lights.

ok? :D

all i wanted to do is find out why and how they changed. didnt mean to come off hard earlier so sorry bout that but dont need to poke fun that i paid 150..

This part is what I labled a stinger. It gives the light housing the correct color. 6000 and 8000 in my car both give off the same color light in front of the car, but the housing colors are different. My 6000 in the picture has a white stinger, my 8000 have a blue stinger. This is done for state laws. In michigan all it says is your headlights must give off a white light, which they do but the lights in the housings look blue. I don't know what kind of hid's your runnin but the cheap ones I have give off the same color light no matter which kit you get, the only difference is the stinger makes the housings glow what ever color you picked. And you can bash cheap kits all you like, for 180 I got ballasts, plug and play, 2 sets of bulbs 6000 and 8000 and a lifetime warranty on bulbs, wires, and ballasts.

LMAO. You couldn't be any further from correct on what you're calling a "stinger" and how it gives the bulb its color. You might want to do your research before posting back again. :D What you're calling a "stinger" is actually the insulator for the return wire on the bulb. The return wire is the wire that extends from the tip of the bulb back to the base, alongside the bulb itself. It is insulated by a thin tube of ceramic to prohibit a premature arc of electricity outside the bulb (what you're calling the "stinger"). The color of this insulator has absolutely nothing to do with the color that the bulb produces. I've already explained above what gives it its color.

Also, while you're at it, call up the Lincoln dealership and ask them how much replacement ballasts and bulbs cost for an 03+ LS with the HID option.

i seen a price quote they thought my lights were stock and one of them failed to start during a oil change go figure and dont start ive heard enough already:D

143.70 for the one side.. good thing i got a warranty cuz back windshield was 1000 dollars... this car is mighty expensive if u dont got coverage

Yowza! Did you get an extended warranty from the dealer? I bought my 2002 back in 2006, so the factory 4 year warranty had just run out. It still only has 23k miles on it, so hopefully I'm good for a while. :)

yup my bro sold me the car and wouldnt let me leave without one.. and im so glad i listened cuz in my first 3000 miles with it was rocky. so hopefully im in the clear for a while now :D the real price was about 1200-1400 dollars. you'd think lincoln would find a way to prevent something like this happening just for a defroster.. heh
